I have been along time lurker but this is my first post. As my DD is starting at Michigan this Fall, I expect to be in this forum quite a bit. My daughter submitted her housing application a few weeks back. She is in the Honors program and wants to stay in South Quad. However when she filled in her app, South Quad was not listed as one of the choices for "Campus Neighborhood Preferences". So she had to fill in others like Central, Bursley etc as her choices. She did put in "Honors" as her MLC first choice. Is this sufficient? Is this how it was for others as well? Or should we contact housing to make sure she is placed in South Quad???

Thanks!

You cannot request a specific residence hall on the housing application, only neighborhood. There are 3 neighboorhood choices, central (E., S., and W., Quads plus barbour, newberry, and fletcher), the hill (Markley, Mojo (closed for renovations), Stockwell, Couzens, and Lloyd), and north (bursely baits). What you needed to do is list central as your first choice and honors for an MLC. Also, if there was any other question that asked about honors housing, you needed to indicate that that is what you wanted. If you indicated that you wanted honors housing, you'll get South Quad on Central Campus.

Housing contracts have already begun to go out, and it will tell you if you have been placed in S. Quad in honors housing. If there is something else, DON'T SIGN THE CONTRACT. Call housing and tell them you want honors housing. If you sign the contract, it IS binding, and then you have to go through a whole ordeal to get into Squad.

Hope that helps.

That answers my question. I guess we just have to wait now to hear from housing

are you coming to parent orientation soon...if you are, you can pick up your contract if it hasn't already been mailed just so you know.
