when do I get notified on whether I got into the honors program or not? I got in for EA, and can somebody chance me because if i get into the honors program, Mich jumps right into my #1 spot.

GPA:4.3 (weighted)
UW: 3.81
SAT: 2210 ( can I send this in? I took this one in November and never sent it to Mich and my one before this was 2120)
Various EC's (clubs, 500 hours of volunteering, etc.)

You’ll be notified in April. You seem like a medium to strong candidate, you have a good chance of acceptance based on your stats.

I’d like to give you a word of advice-- I am currently in the Honors Program, and let me tell you, it really should not be the reason for UMich being your number one school. It is such a tiny and miniscule part of my experience here thus far, and students who aren’t in Honors have a very similar experience and similar opportunities. I’m not trying to put it down or anything, but it’s not an actual college, just a program. Whether or not you go through it, you’ll have a very similar experience either way. And you can still graduate with honors from the university without going through the program-- you just have to write a thesis (which you have to do if you’re in the program anyway).

I’m just saying, with respect to the more major aspects and the myriad of features of the University of Michigan, the Honors Program is a very small one in comparison, and you should reconsider putting that much weight on it.

thank you for the advice, and I feel I will most likely end up at this school, honors or not. Do I have to send in my new SAT? are my senior 1st semester grades calculated as well?

I believe they may evaluate your first semester grades, yes, as your counselor sends out your midyear report somewhere around the beginning of February. Other than that, they evaluate everything that was evaluated by admissions (your application, statistics, and credentials as whole) as well as the essay that you submit based on one of the prompts on the honors site. I’m not sure if sending in new SAT scores would count toward their evaluation, but it might be worth a shot.

I would just like to add to this discussion. My son was asked to apply to the honors college last year. He didn’t end up applying and it very much upset me. I couldn’t understand why he would pass on the opportunity. He was very interested in writing and in the end applied to the Alice Lloyd Hall Scholars program. Hewas accepted and it has made his experience at Michigan great. But it is only a part of the experience…that’s what makes Michigan great. There is not just one path. The opportunities are endless! That’s why you should pick Michigan!

Agreed. Honors is fine, especially for the guaranteed central campus housing, but definitely shouldn’t make or break your decision on Umich. You’ll have an unbelievable experience either way.
