Currently I'm a sophomore, and I wanted to get my last science credit done this year in hopes of clearing up more space for an internship as a junior. However, the only available science related courses left were Honors Physics and on-level chemistry.
Like an idiot, I chose physics
to give you an idea of the difficulty level of this course, juniors with schedules packed with AP's concede that this class is practically suicide.
However, chem is almost stupidly easy, and almost all my peers are taking the honors course.
So should I stick with physics and risk a very low grade, or switch to chem which looks bad compared to the science classes other students are taking, or forget about a second science class altogether, and sign up for some random elective?
All the rest of my classes are either AP or Honors.

Don’t risk getting a very low grade. Go for Chemistry. Won’t hurt to learn about it.
I am taking Physics, and I hate it already.

Honors Physics sucked!

I was in it for a few days but dropped the course.

It was definitely a huge burden off my shoulders.
My teacher got his doctorate in Physics, and he taught the class like we were in college…
He had a hard time explaining things in simple terms.
I’m not a “science” person at all.

But overall, I’m glad I did. It wasn’t worth the stress and (most likely) a low grade just to to “look good” to colleges.

You’re only a sophomore, so you have time.

Take chemistry.

to the OP: Am I reading this wrong, or was this choice a 2nd science that you were adding on? what is your 1st one if that is the case?

The honors physics or the chem will be treated as an academic elective if it’s the 2nd science; it could help or kill your GPA, but if your first science is an AP one (or even honors) not sure it matters if the chem is not…

Hope I’m making sense; post back with a response…

Physics is the second science course in my schedule, my first (and required course) is honors biology.

^^thought so; def drop the physics…what are your options for junior/senior year for science? the only reason to double up science this early is to get AP’s in…if that is your goal, take the chem (so you can take AP later)…otherwise, get the highest GPA you can get and stay with the regular sequence of science…

fwiw, alot of honors physics courses assume some background in calculus…

In our school, physics is considered about the same level as chemistry, mostly because A LOT of physics is integrated into the middle school curriculum.

^^Not really. I took hon. physics as a freshman while taking Algebra 2 concurrently.
