Hi All,
My daughter has been accepted ED to DePaul and received the Presidential Scholarship (92k) and has also been asked to apply to the Honors Program.
I am having a difficult conversation with her father regarding the % of kids that get this opportunity, he is downplaying it (not to her but to me). However, until we can get to the school and sit down with admissions and FA I cant find anything to support this. Does anyone have a similar experience?
Is the Honors program a worthwhile commitment? She has until Feb 1 to apply.
My S17 was accepted to the Honors program at DePaul. (He graduated from a top suburban HS in the Boston area…3.5ish, several APs, 31 ACT). We went to Chicago and met with someone from the program and he had lunch with a student in the program. He left really impressed. I believe they invite about 10% of the class. For my son, it felt like it would be a natural fit given the rigor of his high school.
In the end, he did not attend DePaul; he simply couldn’t get a response from the coach in his sport. (He had offers from some other D1 coaches.) That said, we were very impressed with DePaul and, in fact, my D19 has applied. Good luck!
Thanks for the reply and the info. and congrats on your sons D1 achievements.
Do you know any details about the offer of the Presidential Scholarship?
And what was your opinion regarding housing?
Good luck to your daughter as well!
If I recall, my son’s scholarship brought the cost down to close to what we had in mind as affordable. Then eventually came back with a second smaller scholarship that made DePaul the most cost effective school other than where he ended up (McGill).
Housing was just fine. Decent quality for dorms. My sense was that after a year or two the kids move off campus to an apartment. Fortunately, DePaul is right on the L so it is an option to move a bit further off campus to save money.
Overall, we had a really favorable opinion of DePaul. My oldest is a city kid and loves Chicago…U of Chicago wasn’t going to be an academic fit; Northwestern he just didn’t like when he visited. DePaul had a nice feel and he loved the idea of taking classes on the main campus and in the Loop at the business school.
Thank you for your insight!
