Son’s GPA is 4.45 (weighted) 4.0 (unweighted), 32 on ACT, all AP classes, Eagle Scout, lots of extra-curriculars, community service-minded, 2 mission trips. Does anyone know if he would be considered for the highest academic award (Presidential Scholarship) for $18k?
I honestly don’t know if your son would be eligible for the Presidential Scholarship. I can tell you that my daughter has a 3.8 uw gpa/4.25 w (by our school’s system. Similar extra circulars, ap classss, etc. but my daughter’s sat/act score were lower than your son’s; quite low that she did not submit her standardized test scores when she applied to depaul. She applied test optional. Answered the additional questions and submitted a personal statement.
We are from the northeast (not sure if that makes a difference) and according to naviance my daughter is only the 2nd person from her Hs to apply to DePaul in the last ten years.
Additionally, my daughter applied regular decision.
All that is to say my daughter was accepted and received the Dean’s scholarship at $17,000. (It might have been $16,000 I don’t have the paperwork in front of me but it was the Dean’s scholarship).
So, with my very unscientific pool of 1 I think your son stands a good chance of receiving the Presidential scholarship. My daughter was also invited to apply for the leadership and community service scholarships as well as the honors college.
It states on the DePaul scholarship site that priority is given if you apply by Nov 15 which I believe is also the early action deadline. My daughter applied on Jan 4.
We are going to visit in about two weeks. If my daughter loves it then we will put down the housing deposit the next day
Good luck. I hope this has helped.
Yes, I think he would get the presidential scholarship. My son get it with a little lower state (31 ACT and 3.8 GPA, 5.1 weighted). He also is in the honors business program and has been asked to interview for another scholarship.
Thank you so much for responding. With my son being a junior, we will anxiously awaiting applying in the Fall and see what happens. We are looking at other schools, but DePaul’s reputation in the business district of Chicago is impeccable and we’ve known many who have graduated and went straight to work from internships. He would be commuting also…he has no desire to live on campus and we are about a 25 minute “el train” ride away, which would save some $$. Your daughter will love our fine city!
@d101parent: That is wonderful! Are you local and has he looked at other schools? My son is interested in either Finance/Actuarial Science/or Accounting. Toured Loyola…beautiful campus but the college of business does not have the reputation that DePaul’s does.
I have similar stats to your son but less ECs (although my ECs were very meaningful) and was awarded the Presidential Scholarship plus admission into the Honors Program. So it’s not a guarantee because I’m sure the scholarship decisions are holistic and recipients probably vary from year to year, but it’s likely that he will be considered.
