i've been accepted to the engineering honors program...but what exactly are the perks of being in honors? i know you get to live in the honors dorm but that's all i know...are there separate honors and regular classes? do you get to schedule your classes first? are the people nice?

it looks better on your resume, there are some honors classes, but you only take those your 3rd and 4th years, you can apply for the honors quad dorms which are nicer than most, and i think the people will be the same anywhere

the best thing is that you get to meet some really great ppl with similar interests. the honors quad's the best place to socialize/study/meet ppl..you'll like it. i'm sure

yeah, i think the best part about being in honors will be not having to live in jester...thanks guys, yay i'm excited

What are the honors dorms called? I am asking more about the business honors dorms, though, because I applied to that program.

you know, you COULD have spent maybe 2 minutes doing your own research and found this http://www.utexas.edu/student/housing/index.php?site=1&scode=4&is_main=1

do a little work yourself.

I believe the purpose of this forum is to exchange information about The University of Texas at Austin. There are very few constraints on what may be discussed, but one of them is civility. Kcirsch - if it bothers you so much to assist others, then don't do it. Someone else will gladly answer questions posed here.

which one is the best to live in? andrews, blanton, or carothers? or does it really even make a difference?

i'd think it's either andrews or carothers. blanton doesn't have sinks in the rooms. but the blanton lobby's one of the most popular place in the quad

sorry didn't mean to be nasty, but plenty of information could be found just by investigating college webpages for a few minutes.

Can anyone comment on the honors dorms? I was really looking forward to Castilian until I saw that there were honors dorms. I'm guessing that they are mandatory for students in the honors programs for freshman year. After that, can students move anywhere else? Or are they not mandatory? Sorry... couldn't find much info on this on the Business Honors Program site.

There are no business honors dorms. There is only one honors dorm which comprises three small dorms on the three sides of four dorms with a central court yard. The other side is an all girls dorm that has to remain that way due to someone's will.

Son lives there this year and likes it.

no the dorms aren't mandatory..but usually honors students prefer them

a lot of my friends got kicked out of the honors dorm their second year..esp the plan ii ones.

Why'd they get kicked out? Also, is there a specific reason why the honor program students prefer them? The community aspect of being with other honor program students?

We all got kicked out because there are way too many plan II kids in the honors quad. They try to keep a relative balance in numbers between the majors. A lot of p2 kids want to stay and a lot apply to get in. Someone has to go.

As for BHP, there are no BHP dorms, but most of my BHP friends are either in dobie or towers. It's just personal preference.
