<p>Yep, SQuad has a much larger honors population. I really wanted to live there, too. :(</p>
<p>Pros:
South Quad housing is awesome. Food ain’t bad, really good hours. We have our own mini-convenience store as well as a pizza place downstairs.<br>
There’s a lotta South Quad/Honors only events. For example, we got our own bus to see Harry Potter this past November, and we get discounted tickets to lots of student events and shows and stuff.
People here are much more academically oriented than I’d say, West Quad or something, but we do know how to have a lotta fun.
Honors classes are generally easier/lot better professors, except the math classes. The math classes are typically a lot harder
Honors seminars are the best best best! I took one called “Imagination” with Dr. Amrine, and it’s probably one of the best classes I’ve ever taken. If you are in Honors, take a seminar course!
You get dibs on housing</p>
<p>Cons:
Although we get our own set of advisors, most of them are pretty bad, at least through my own personal experience. I took too many hard courses + work study + research cuz my advisor told me it’d be a lotta work, but I had to set a good pace for myself. I dropped a class, got a C+ in another class, and pretty much messed up my entire 1st semester. So yeah, I learned that my own judgment > advisors. I heard the head guy = Tim McCay is a good advisor though. Mehhh
To graduate with Honors, you need to do an Honors Thesis. Just by taking 8 Honors courses through Sophomore year gets you a special Honors thing on your diploma, which isn’t that much extra work.</p>
<p>That’s pretty much it for now. I’m a current U of M Freshman in the Honors Program. Feel free to ask any questions!</p>
<p>Heplayer-I know you kinda overloaded yourself first semester, but are honor classes curved any higher than regular classes? How much extra work are they?</p>
<p>I for the email today. I’m gathering that not everyone gets it. Is that correct?</p>
<p>Any idea on what percentage are invited vs accepted?</p>
<p>is the honors program invite only?</p>
<p>No you can apply without the invite but some people got an email today asking them to apply.</p>
<p>how does one apply after getting admitted ?</p>
<p>I am confused, because someone got in w/o applying. Did anyone here get that email? Also, what is the percentage that are asked to apply?</p>
<p>Is there an honors program for engineering students or just LSA?</p>
<h2>just LSA</h2>
<p>The essay is the most important part of getting in. Yours should entertain the reader and tickle his/her brain.</p>
<p>If your stats are low, just ask politely for a chance to apply.</p>
