Honors ?!

ok uh how many people have been getting that honors letter? and how hard is it exactly to get in to the honors program?

because....i still haven't gotten mine. and i have amazing stats compared to most people who are even getting accepted.

Roughly the top 10% of LSA applicants are accepted into the honors program.

But, is an invitation to the Honors program just based on pure stats? I know the generic answer will be, "No they look at everything combined." But if anyone knows from past years, do they take into account a strong academic schedule, a hard school curriculum, extracurriculars etc.

Is the invitation an indicator of a strong chance of getting into it?

I want some south quad dorms, lol, my friend is in honors and he said it is the way to go to ensure decent dorms.

If you want to get in South Quad, ok. (you can drop Great Books later)

But I'm going to recommend against the Honors program...it really restricts you in which classes you can take (must take two honors classes per semester, and also must take Great Books the first two semesters.)

I'm fine with that. I just want to see if I get in or not. Honors, I think, will help me with research opportunities in the long run.

I'm particularly curious about what the invitation actually means. If you write the essay, do you have pretty good chances, or do a lot of people still get turned down at that point? I received the invitation, and will write the essay, but I'm still unsure about my chances.

Yeah I know, it is so vague. It does say that those who submit the essay get first consideration, though.

I can scan the letter if anyone is really dying to see it.

Is the invitation everyone is talking about the letter that invites you to send in an essay and says that 70% of people admitted to honors write the essay? Or is there another actual invitation to honors college that has gone out already? Anyone? Anyone?

I'm talking about something that fits the description of the former.

do you apply to the honors program and write the essay, or do you have to be invited?

i think you can send an email saying you want to be considered and they will send you stuff.

ok so i got the essay letter...is that good for chances of getting into it?

i emailed them ...they emailed me back in like 5 minutes. no joke. they said they will be happy to consider me and will add me to the list of people to have that letter mailed...which i should receive in a couple of weeks. and then they said they hope to hear from me with my essays. so i'm thinking pretty much anyone who emails them will get an "invitation" or whatever...and then they review the essays to see who actually makes it.
i duno if people who already got the letter have a better chance...but yeah.

well, i mean the essay is optional, so it is also the original application file.
