Northeastern is my #1 school, but I will go wherever I get into the honors program. How exclusive is the one at northeastern?
What major? I don’t think your GPA falls into the honors range of GPAs. On our tour this year, they gave us the honors stats for this year’s (2015/2016) application season… I wlll post when I find them. I think the school you are applying to within NEU makes a difference on chances for getting into honors. That said, what’s the big deal about getting into honors at NEU? It really doesn’t buy you much.
Major: Biochem-Biomed Engineering (haven’t decided) with a minor in Computer Science. It’s very competitive. Really, it comes down to scholarships. And honors program implies scholarships.
Not true at NEU. Please read the results thread for EA and RD. Plenty of students get merit money at NEU that are not honors students. That said, for merit, NEU is extremely stats based, and an ACT of 31 will probably not get you merit. 3.6 UW will probably not get you merit - but I will post the stats they shared with us.
Yeah, seconding that merit will be unlikely, but still possible. Some get merit and no honors, others get honors and no merit - they are chosen independently of each other.
@cm12345 They try to aim for the 400 to 500 range of students but sometimes things happen - one year saw like 700+ students in the honors program because of an influx of kids who accepted the offer to come to the school
What are the qualifications that the Honors program is looking for in prospective students?
Northeastern University automatically reviews the top 10% of the incoming first-year class for admittance into the Honors program. The reviewed materials include high school academic records, such as GPA and SAT/ACT scores, and leadership and community service.
How many students are currently in the Honors program?
As of the Fall 2015, there is a total of 2,800 honors students.
I am attending Northeastern this fall, I got into the honors program (I am a bioengineering major, I had a 31 on my ACT & a 4.04 GPA at the time) but did not receive merit through Northeastern which didn’t make sense. (However, I received a scholarship through FIRST robotics instead.) I got into honors at almost every school I applied to. I took my ACT after I applied to a bulk of my schools early action so I didn’t have that 31 at first. I got into honors programs at schools like UMD collegepark with a 1790 on my SAT. I think what truly helped was my essay. Good luck to you, though.
