honors program

What are the general requirements to get into the honors program? What GPA and ACT score are likely to get you in? and Also, will I find out if I got into the honors program at the same time that I find out about admission? I applied Early Action.

Generally speaking top 10% of applicants in any given major. In other words, they look at each major separately so the requirements/stats for business might be different then for pharmacy. The honors program acceptance comes a little later than the general EA acceptance. EA acceptances are generally right before Christmas.

ebeee, not to contradict as the honors placement may vary, but D found out she was accepted into Honors program with her EA acceptance letter. Not sure also if that may be major-related. She is in the engineering school.

RatedPG, could be....or else I believe my son is a year ahead of your child so perhaps it changed last year....

I was looking more for the GPA and ACT scores of the people who were admitted into the honors business program for undergraduates. Does anybody have any idea?

I don't think anyone has that kind of information... it really just depends on who applies since it's the top 10%.

the scores are at honors.neu.edu

I'm in the honors program for the class of 2012. I had a 33 ACT/2120 SAT/was top5% of my class if it helps. There's not one cutoff- high scores/grades, 5s on APs, or outstanding extracurriculars/research all can come into play. The program basically functions to bribe top applicants to come here with the nicer housing.

If you want my honest opinion, you should not let getting into the honors program influence your decision about coming here either way. If you like Northeastern- the campus, the amazing city of Boston, the co-op and focus on experiential learning- then you should come here because it's really an awesome school for so many reasons.

The nicer housing isn't necessary at all to your enjoyment of freshman year- in fact, I feel like I missed out a bit on the traditional freshman experience that my friends had at other schools. The honors sections of classes are nice, because they're a bit smaller, are usually open during registration, and might have the better rated teachers (definitely arguable), but overall you are going to get a quality education here no matter what. The honors program doesn't carry as much prestige as they might make it sound at the open house.

If you don't get into the honors program, don't worry. I've heard from a bunch of people that they got in after the fact by calling and telling NU they would come to the school if they were placed in the program- but I wouldn't even bother. You will like Northeastern honors program or not.

If I don't get into honor,do I have chance to get into it in sophomore year when I have amazing academic record in freshman year?

you can get into the honors program after your first semester freshman year, or after ur second semester going into sophomore year, as long as you have at least a 3.6 GPA.
