Do any of you experienced CCers/college app process "survivors" know anything about U VA's College Science Scholars program? Cornell's Dean's Scholars/Presidential Research Awards programs?

My S has been offered the CCS (along with Echols) at U VA. He also got a "likely" (it seems like a lifetime ago now--back on March 17) saying he'd been nominated for Cornell's Dean's Scholar program--but altho he got his offer of admission from Cornell, he didn't get anything about the Dean's Scholar program. Since then, he's also heard about a Cornell program called the "Presidential Research Awards" program (I think I have that name right, but could be remembering it wrong), which (I think) gives Dean's Scholars research grant money. His GC called Cornell today to inquire and they told her letters were mailed last Friday (nothing in today's mail here).

Can you all fill me in on what these programs are all about? Are they comparable? Should S rethink going to U VA based on the combination of Echols & CSS (we're in state so it's hugely less expensive...but we do have the money for Cornell, so money's an issue only if the programs are comparable--and if it turns out S likes U VA as much as he likes Cornell (at the moment, that appears unlikely, but one never knows)...

Thanks in advance for whatever help you can give...
