Hey, this is to any of you out there that have gotten accepted into UNC but did not get accepted into the Honors Program. Don't let your "rejection" be the reason to keep you from coming to this school. I was in the same boat this time last year, with plenty of more appealing offers, or at least more appealing in my parents' eyes. I was slightly put out at not being accepted into the Honors Program, but I ended up coming anyway, and I have no regrets.

It also doesn't hurt that I got into the program after applying at the beginning of this semester. Anyway, good luck with your last semester of high school everyone. Hope to see you here next year.

Feeling "rejected" on my son's behalf. Here is my question. Are your chances of doing undergraduate research and getting into honors classes diminished by not being an "honors" student. Son is IS and looking to be a Computer Science major.

Your son's chances of doing undergrad research are not affected at all, as far as I know. All your son has to do is show interest and he's got a good shot at getting into research.

As far as honors classes go, your son will have a smaller chance of getting into some of the more popular honors classes, but there are many other classes he could get into. I wasn't in the Honor's Program until this semester, and will not get priority in signing up until classes this fall, but I am actually in an Honors class this semester. I certainly could have been in some other honors classes as well, but I chose not to.

Undergraduate research will not be impacted, as long as he actively engages with his professors.

Honors classes will be harder to get. However, I know a good number of people who got into Honors after coming to UNC. It's really, really accessible - very different in structure & feel than honors programs at many other universities.
