Honors --time to panic yet?

to pbgayte:

i'm an oos student and i was accepted at uw in december but still haven't heard from honors. i called the honors program and they said that it's rolling admissions for honors and that decisions could come as late as mid-April...

i'm sure your daughter will get in, that is impressive!

sml29, thanks for the encouragement. she still hasn't heard. if it's a rolling admissions shouldn't she either be a YES or a NO by now? Heck, they've had since mid December.....

guess she'll know either way in two weeks.

Whoa- are we going to have to wait until April 15th for an answer? This is tough!
Does anybody know what % of people have been notified by UW honors or if anybody has been rejected?

Please tell me I'm not the only one still waiting... =(

You can have a great experience at UW without being in Honors. My D is a sophomore in UW Honors and she thinks that Honors classes are OK, but not great. There are a number of UW Honors students who drop out of Honors because they prefer regular classes. It all depends on your major.

Honors has a list of classes to choose from for general ed requirements, and many of them are not as great as regular classes. The faculty is also not always consistent. However, UW Honors lowers the number of general ed credits that a student needs to graduate, which is nice for those who want to double-major or take more electives. Take a look at the actual courses offered before making the final decision.

Raftysworld, don't worry, you're not the only one still waiting.

Yeah, so I've heard now. What worries me though is that I haven't heard of anyone being rejected on a rolling basis up to this point. So I'm thinking they may have rolled through all the acceptances, and are saving the rejections for the end... what they appear to be doing with the university admissions.

Reassurance otherwise?? haha.

Raftyworlds, I've been thinking the same thing.

Has ANYONE been rejected from honors yet?

Just an FYI, all decision letters are being sent out or have been sent out this week. I was visiting my friend in the Honors office on Friday, and he was working on stuffing the letters. You should get your letters soon.

Proud Husky do tell us, please....are all the letters reject letters at this point? Seems people have been accepted all along, but no rejects....until now...

Last year the Bear got a yes answer about this time.

parentofbear, that's encouraging! did bear apply in the fall of 06 or in the spring of 07?

Question:

Can someone accepted into honors for the class of 2012 try something?:

Go here, you'll have to be logged into myuw for it to work. Choose your major, and request an audit. wait about a minute and choose "Recheck Audit Status" Then open it... does it continue to show
*** AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE ***
in the middle of the page, or is that section replaced with HONORS CORE?

raftysworld, did yours show honors core?

No, mine shows Areas of Knowledge. Which is why i'm nervous and need reassurance haha.

pbgayte asked:
"parentofbear, that's encouraging! did bear apply in the fall of 06 or in the spring
of 07?"

Fall 07, everything went in Dec 1. She only had a magic number on the math part of the SAT so she had to wait.

Got the word today. 780 CR, 690 Math and 700 writing with a 3.94 was not good enough to get my son in the Honors program. Bummer- the LAC he is going to attend will be a lot more expensive.

Ahhhhhhh that scares me a LOT. My SATs are around there... And I still haven't received word. Great. Just great.

Don't worry, whirlybird. I don't think it's all about stats. My SAT score is lower than usski's son (especially math + verbal) and I got into honors. Just try to think positively!

@usski

Is your son in state or out of state? Bleh. My stats are a bit below in both SAT and GPA. And I still haven't heard from them.
