Honors --time to panic yet?

So I got into UW around mid-december, and I still havent heard back from honors, whereas my friend heard back from regular admissions a couple of weeks ago and already got accepted into Honors.

Is this a sign that i got rejected from honors?

No, it's not a sign of rejection from Honors. Just give them time. Honors decisions can take up till April, and you shouldn't compare when your friends applied with your own process since they review in different application pools so that doesn't you mean you're any better/worse than them. Just be patient.

Whew, okay.
Hopefully I'll get an "ACCEPTED!!" soon. =]

So all my friends who applied to Honors got accepted to UW earlier than I did (like 3 weeks earlier). But I got accepted to UW Honors last week and none of them have been accepted to UW Honors yet. I can't imagine that this means they all got rejected. I'm pretty sure you just need to be patient!

hopefully...i mean, it IS nearly a 20% chance of getting into it...

Why fret about getting into honors when the majority of students still don't know if they're even in the University yet? Be patient and I'm sure you'll be fine.

I think each year the acceptance rate gets higher. In 2005 it was about 20%, but according to the 2007 statistics it was about 29%.

If it's any consolation, I thought my honors essay was horrible (like, really horrible), and yet I got in. I also received a decision mid-December from the general university and didn't get a response back from the honors program until Feb. I wouldn't panic.

D went on a campus visit last week and I personally spoke with individuals at the Honors College. They assured me that they were still reading essays (they received significantly more application to honors this year than they did last year--the staff is bit overwhelmed at the moment) and that only a few decisions has been made so far. Most decisions won't be released until April. And even after April 1. (Last year they accepted students into Honors as late as July.)

Don't give up hope.

Thanks for the update!

Ok, I'm still worried about my daughter and the honors program. She applied to UW (and the honors program) on 11/15, found out she was accepted 12/8 but still no word on honors yet.

Is there any way to tell from looking at the myuw page if she's admitted to honors? All it says now is "congratulations on being admitted to UW" and that consideration for honors is requested.

She is a 4.0 student, as many AP classes as our school offers (all 5's), National Merit Finalist. UW honors is her first choice. But she is a Distinguished Regents Scholar at WSU (full ride for 4 years) with automatic admittance into honors. She really needs the challenge that honors will provide. As nice as the full scholarship is at WSU, UW would probably be a better fit.

I guess bottom line, I'm just stressing about not knowing....anyone wait this long to hear from honors? Or should I assume she's not getting in.

I don't think there's any reason to give up just yet. Very few honors admissions have been announced on CC, and I've only heard of a couple through my S's school grapevine.

I also would urge you not to write off UW if honors doesn't come through for your daughter. She can still live in the honors dorm (a friend said that's what her son did last year because he wanted to be around smart kids but not be in honors), and she can still apply to honors (either college or departmental) after she starts at UW. Depending on her interests and preferred social situation, she might prefer UW even without honors - there's a huge range of options as far as courses, activities and lifestyles. WSU seems good, but very different.

My husband and I are both UW alums so UW is clearly our preference. I do think she'd excel at UW even if she wasn't in their honors program but for someone who has been thoroughly bored throughout her education so far, I really want her to get into the honors program. Her counselor and teachers have commented that it would be perfect for her...but it's a waiting game....

I just wish there was a way you could tell if you were accepted or not into honors on the myuw website (like you can with the 'unofficial transcript' link)

I just got accepted to U of W Honors today, so they're definitely still sending out Honors Program admits.

Puddly, did they email you about your acceptance or did you find out via regular mail first?

Anyone else care to share how they found out about acceptance and if there is anyway to determine honors admittance via the myuw website?

pbgayte, my son just heard back today (we live on the east coast) from honors and he had applied in early November and got accepted in late December. I don't think there's any way to learn honors status through the myuw website, as we have checked frequently too. My husband is an alum but the honors program is the only reason we're seriously considering an out-of-state tuition. From what I understand, they are still going through a lot of applications, so I wouldn't worry. Good luck. It was a huge relief to get that letter today.

Hm. Well, I have the same situation (applied in late November, accepted in mid December) and my friend just got into Honors (she applied past the priority date)... I would really like to find out soon.

So hopefully they are still sending out the decisions, and more of them.

My daughter received a letter of acceptance into the UW honors program today. We live in Ohio. (I am glad someone appreciated her coffee shop essay.)

congrats to your daughter, midwest mom...that's exciting news.

When you look at her unofficial transcript on the myuw website does it indicate honors? Did she get an email in addition to the letter?

Just curious how the process works.

Ermm... I applied regular decision and got accepted late January. I got the Honors notice a few days ago through the mail. West coast! :D
