honors to 12-10

Underneath the section fall 2010 grades on my transcript, it says "honors to 12-10". what does this mean?

your grades were good enough to be considered a honor student

What is the GPA requirement for Honors?

is that the same as the deans list?

^^ no. im pretty sure dean’s list is more rigorous (13 letter graded units no np grades in previous term and something like a 3.97 semester gpa)

I think honors is when you go pass 3.7 or 3.8~… not sure but it’s somewhere between there. It’s nothing really special… there are some benefits but its hardly feasible unless you plan on writing a thesis or something.

For L&S there’s three honors ranks. I seriously don’t remember (but it’s on the website somewhere) but I think for minimum honors you need a 3.72.

The benefits of being an honors student are pretty limited:
(taken from L&S Advising)
You may enroll in the honors program in your major, provided you also have the required GPA in courses in the major and the approval of the major department.
As a senior honor student (that is, if you have attained “Honors to Date” after your junior year) you may, with the dean’s approval, enroll in fewer than 13 units in order to complete the honors program in your major.
The major department may waive requirements concerning specific courses or sequences in your major.

But if you do maintain your honors status, you will receive a honors distinction at graduation. That’s always nice to have.

Found the website for it:

[College Policies-Honors](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/collegepolicies/honors.html)

thanks everyone! does this honors distinction refer to cumulative gpa or just gpa for the semester?

I think its by term (semester)

I’m graduating in May and I’m very close to the Honors GPA cutoff. Is the 3.712 for Distinction going to be the GPA required for Spring 2011 graduates or was that last year’s cutoff?

Also, what exactly happens at graduation if you get honors?

you get a spiffy yellow sash i believe.

(and i think they designate it on your diploma)

Actually I believe the sashes were for Greek affiliation?

wait no…i think anyone can buy a sash to compliment their gown.

lol the honors distinction does nothing other than having it been designated on your diploma

You get to wear the gold honors cord at graduation and your honors (university and/or departmental) will appear on your diploma (distinction, high distinction, and highest distinction for university; honors, high honors, and highest honors for department).

^Oh yeah. So if you get L&S honors, and do the honors program in your department, you get two gold cords (at least that’s how it was for poli sci)

“Honors to Date” and “Distinction in General Scholarship at Graduation” are different right? In order to get some form of distinction, your GPA just have to meet the minimum GPA’s listed on the L&S website and you must complete at least 50 units at Berkeley? Does anyone know if the GPA requirements change much from year to year?

they do change, but not by too much. maybe +/-0.02 from year to year, never really varying too outside the 3.91-3.95 range for highest honors (L&S)

[Office of Undergraduate Advising: Honors](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/honor/honor.html)

Just to make sure, is “honors to date” based on semester GPA or cumulative GPA. I know a previous posted said semester GPA but can someone verify this? It would make sense that it is based on cumulative GPA.
