has anyone who is going to/considering ohio state for next year been to one of their honors academic visits? i’m going into the college of math and physical sci and was wondering had been to one of these, better yet, for the same college as me. if so, what do they discuss? how are the honors dorms (south or north campus, mainly south)? is the information really valuable, or kind of common knowledge? i know i’ll get the answers to these for myself when i go, but i just kind of wanted some sort of idea

My son went last year before enrolling and it was pretty much what you’d expect. Students and staff from the honors program spoke/mingled and there were tours of the campus/honors dorms, and plenty of info. If you are interested in meeting with someone from your specific area of interest, you could call the department and see if you could set something up for the day of your visit. The admissions office might have advice about this as well. I think you can schedule part of the day for a programs in your specific area- I know there was something for engineers and something for business, but I am not sure about math/physical science.

Regarding honors dorms -there are other threads you can look up and info on OSU’s housing site. IMO, none of the honors housing options are spectacular but each has its advantages. Conventional wisdom says to pick South (Baker-small doubles with hall bath for freshmen) if you want a more social area with plenty of freshmen, North (Taylor-quads with in-suite bath) if you’re more studious, and West (Lincoln-students share pods and several pods share a larger room and large bathroom) if you need more space. If you are a math/physical science major, North will likely put you closest to classes and near the restaurants/banks/stores/etc on High Street. West puts you closest to the the new library, rec center, and Lenox shopping center (Target, movie theater, Staples, etc). South is closer to the Medical Center, High Street, etc. Hope this helps.
