Honors/WISE

"University Scholars is a highly selective program. As a University Scholar, you will have access to special academic programs, cultural experiences, advisement, and priority registration opportunities, as well as the vast resources of one of the world’s best public research universities. "

And yeah, I’ll probably try again after my first year, but it’s not a huge deal. Thanks for the heads up, though.

rejected from honors, accepted as university scholar- what’s the difference?

I dunno how to make a better analogy and this one is probably not correct but University Scholars would be like honors classes in high school and the Honors program would be like AP classes in high school. That’s how I see it (without the gpa weighting of course).

Accepted to Honors College–I had completely forgotten I had applied. Letter says scholarship information will come soon. If I choose to not attend, will someone else get the spot; I feel so guilty for taking someone’s spot away =/

quick stats
SAT I: 2250-- 700CR, 770M, 780W
SAT II: 790 Chem, 750 Math II & Physics
GPA: 4.0; 98 UW, 102W

i got into the WISE program too. just wondering, did anyone else get in and share your SAT scores and extracurriculars here? THANKS! and did anyone pay the housing deposits yet? i heard there are rooms reserved in the GRAY college for WISE students.

@paosid

I’m fairly certain that’s not how it works. I imagine that they admit a certain amount of people over what they can actually sustain based on the average attendance rate in previous years. Don’t feel bad in any case, you certainly deserve it with those stats, and even if you didn’t apply to HC, there’s no guarantee your spot would have gone to someone who would attend either.

Anybody hear about scholarships yet btw? Last year they came before HC/US/WISE notices as far as I can tell.

Presidential Scholarship notification arrived today for my son

My Scholarship notification arrived today as well.

What exactly is the presidential scholarship? My letter says the tuition and “comprehensive fees”. Does it by any chance include dorming?

Scholarship notification came today in the mail as well, but I have not even received my official letter of acceptance yet…

lol…

Presidential Scholarship sounds impressive…yet its just a small amount, but nice for us in-state ($2500 per year)

Rejected from Honors College/Wise :frowning:
But I got into University Scholars with a $3000/year presidential scholarship :D

Can anyone explain to me the actual difference(s) between University Scholars and Honors College? I thought I knew but the more I look at the descriptions provided by SB, the more I don’t seem to understand

You don’t apply to University Scholars they invite you after a review of general applicants. Or at least my son did not apply…

Right. The key difference at the outset is that Scholars is culled from the top 7-8% of the freshman class automatically. HC isn’t for everyone; not everyone applies, but we still want to recognize our top students.

Scholars get priority registration, specialized seminars and sections and seats in classes, advisement, things like that. It’s a great program; I’ve been teaching a Scholars seminar for the last three years, and it’s some of the most fun I’ve had on campus

On the scholarship question – if it says tuition and fees, then it does NOT include room and board.

Chris

Hm I only got a $1,000 for Presidential Scholarships, guess my stats weren’t enough. This is for tuition, then my FAFSA/TAP can be used for dorm/room/board/books/other expenses?

$3,500 here. Certainly not bad at all, effectively halves the cost, but was expecting a bit more based on stat comparisons and stuff…

Please, please, please don’t play the “stat comparison” game here on CC. There’s quite a bit that goes into the scholarship calculation, and it’s not just a matter of simple math. Thanks.

Chris

Makes sense that more than just stats are considered, but I figured it’d at least give me a general idea.

Still happy in any case. :)
