Honors

Do I need to complete an honors program to go to med school or can I just have some honors courses?

From what I hear, you only need premed requirements. They don't really care about honors, I think.

Just take the normal pre-reqs, get some EC's done, maintain a good gpa, and just wish for the best.

you don't need to take honors courses, and i personally wouldn't take them if it would damage my gpa. It is fine to take the honors courses for your own interest, but only if you understand that taking the honors courses won't give your application any CONSIDERABLE boost. What im trying to say is its better to have a high gpa and no honors than to have a low gpa with full honors.

Why you would assume that everyone in medical school has taken honors courses I don't know, but bruinboy is correct, being honors doesn't provide any significant advantage.

However I would point out that some courses, at some schools, when taken honors are actually easier than their corresponding non-honors section. The professors may be better, the smaller class size beneficial, or the format of the course different all leading to better grades. Ideally I think it is wise to look into honors courses when you can, but find out as much as you can about the section before deciding to take one. Find out the prof, e-mail them about the course (I probably wouldn't add that you're pre-med), ask other students and then decide which is most beneficial...
