Hood College Class of 2023

Anyone else looking at Hood for Class of 2023? I’m trying to decide between Hood, Allegheny, Goucher, and Washington College. Need to re-visit a few schools before I make up my mind.

I have close family members who attend Hood, Goucher and Washington College, and I have lived near Goucher and Washington. What questions do you have?

Thanks for replying. I’m interested in History and Creative Writing. Not going out for team sports but definitely interested in joining clubs. I’m looking for interesting classes with students who want to be there (at least most of the time). Good food and a decent dorm experience always a plus. Would rather be on a campus that’s walkable to a few things rather than totally isolated (that was a drawback to St. Mary’s). Finally, would be great to be somewhere with a sense of community/friendly.

All are probably very good for history and writing, with Washington having an especially strong creative writing program. Additionally, the Sophie Kerr prize is awarded to the strongest writer in the senior class. https://www.washcoll.edu/departments/english/sophie-kerr-legacy/

Goucher is in the largest town of Towson-lots to do and easy access to Baltimore.
Hood is also in a fairly large town with plenty around the campus.
Washington is in small Chestertown, but everything is easy to walk to, and for a small town there is an assortment of restaurants and a vibrant arts culture. Very friendly town and college community.

How does the cost compare of each? That is an important issue for most.

Have you visited? That will probably help the most, as you will meet current students and gain an understanding of the campus culture.

Thank you for all of this useful information - I really appreciate it. I’m going to look to re-visit Hood and to go see Washington College in the next two weeks. I’ve been to see Goucher a few times and think I’d be pretty happy there but don’t want to rule anything out. Allegheny’s the only other school on my list - which requires more travel but I really liked it during a quick visit last month. Having a choice has its ups and downs!

Yes, sometimes choices make it very difficult! Good luck.

Decided that both Hood and Washington College were both too small.
