hope after deferral?

They'll send u a letter at the end of april if you got the 1 semester tranfser. I think only about 20 people or so get the transfer. If you're on the waitlist and Cornell really wants to accept you but can't because there's no room, then they'll give you a 1 semester transfer.

guess who's back! hahaha =D

Just got a letter from SHA about a preferred transfer acceptance. Nothing about guaranteed though =(

I already had difficulty choosing between UCLA and Berkeley...and now this! Dilemma!

Can someone please explain the difference from GT, and now a preferred? Does one hold more water than the other??????

Also...Have many people been accepted from the deferral list besides dandi, or are we all Gt now?

I think a preferred transfer just means you will be given higher priority over other regular transfers....but it's not guaranteed. I also think it's something only the hotel school offers.

ok talk about bringing a thread back from the dead....but i thought it would be helpful for those that were deferred this year! this thread helped me get through the long winter of waiting and maybe reading it will help all of you :)

best of luck

I got deferred... I should really read this thread, but I do have an AP Econ test tomorrow :(

dande: Do you know if HumEc accepts a lot of its deferred applicants?

:( I really hope you get in Chandler.

Thanks cornellhopeful :)
I really hope so too!
And I just read the thread despite my obligation to study, haha.

Let's continue this thread for the months that await for RD results to come back!
And all deferred applicants: post your decisions for RD here in March/April.

Ah, the torture...

Is CAS hard to get in RD after deferred ED? :(

dande your post made me feel so much better i Just read this thread!

I am a deferred hotelie right now. I have faith thanks to you!

ya, dande really makes me think that there is still hope. i really do not know why i am so obsessed with Cornell!!! Others are right that we got to fall a bit in love with other colleges but my mind still thinking of Cornell. I was deferred from CALS for the AEM program. What does DEFERRED mean to the admissions staff for CALS? fake hope or they want to reconsider you? I am an international student, did not ask for financial aid. i hope they deferred me not because of this reason due to the economic meltdown. And i heard that AEM is very competitive. So, what exactly can you interpret from a deferred international applicant for the most competitive program at a contract college?

did any of you call the adcoms up and ask for the exact reason of why you were deferred?

cherry0809: Yes, my GC and I called HumEc admissions together and we got a response.
The reason for my particular deferral:
The adcom wanted to know more about how my extracurriculars tied into the HumEc mission, and how my EC's SPECIFICALLY influenced my interest in HBHS/HumEc. Basically, she didn't see me talking about my fit in terms of EC's. I guess talking about how your interests tie into their mission wasn't enough.

I am deferred from CALS. I am going to send in a supplemental letter and a recommendation. However, I have moved on from Cornell. I feel that this deferral is absolutely INsincere. If I get in Cornell and another "higher ranked" college that I love, I don't know whether I will pick Cornell.

I'm still hoping for Cornell, but I think their reason for deferring me is... insincere as well, to put it nicely. I'm looking at other colleges too, and I doubt that Cornell will accept me for RD if they didn't find me appealing for ED. I'll try my best with the supplemental letter, but if that doesn't work out, then I'll try to be happy going elsewhere. I'd still pick Cornell over other top-ranked colleges though.

So, this topic hits home for me, because I applied ED years ago and was deferred.

Of course, I was devastated at first. It was a nasty shock to discover that I wasn't as desirable as I hoped. I immediately finished up my other two college apps and sent them out in the mail (a safety school and an alternative, both of which accepted me).

So, then one very warm day in early spring, I came home and found the thick envelope in the mailbox. They deferred me to regular decision, but accepted me nevertheless.

My advice as someone who was in this position a while ago is to make sure that you get your other college apps out just in case, but don't lose hope.

That story does give me hope... what college at Cornell were you deferred from?
I have so many college apps to do and so little time.
I hope I get accepted somewhere halfway decent...

ontario, could you please tell us of what you did and send to cornell that they decided to take you during RD? and are u now at cornell now?

can any of you guys (preferably the ones who got accepted RD) tell me how important the mid year report is? I ask because my first semester senior grades dont come out until early february, and ILR (the school i got deferred from) releases its first rolling decisions in mid feb. I made a thread about this earlier, but i didn't get satisfactory answers so please help me out :)
