Hopeful Brown Applicant

Hi guys! I have several questions

I am interested in applying to Brown University for a science course (maybe biochemistry/biotechnology etc.) and a minor like history. How competitive is Brown for such courses?

Which aspect of the application is Brown University most interested in/places greater emphasis on? Is it the SAT scores, the essays, the extracurricculurs…? The reason I am asking this is because my SAT score is probably going to be very low, but my other stats should be presumably better.

You can take a look at my profile below:

Also what are the chances like for international students? I am a student at an international school in Singapore and I have an Indian passport. Where does that put me?

Thanks so much and please do reply asap!

1) There’s no separate applicant pools for each major. Applicants aren’t evaluated according to their intended majors.

2) Brown values the essays, especially the “Why Brown” essay. This is of course assuming that your SAT I and II scores, GPA, AP/IB are all within the Brown’s range. Brown takes interest into account, but does not track campus visits. This means that you have to shine in the Brown supplement and the interview if you have one.

3) If you apply for aid, you will have a harder time being accepted, because Brown is need-aware for international students. They are 100% needs met once you’re accepted however. If you can afford Brown, it would be in your best interests not to apply for aid.

P.S: Since you’re Indian, it would be in your best interests to boost your SAT I score. There are MANY Indians applying to Ivies every year and it would be wise to try to stand out from your fellow Indian applicants in any way you can.

Best of luck.
