Hopeful Dartmouth C/O 2022

white female, upper class (no connections at dartmouth, both parents went to Harvard+ donors)
SAT: 1540
GPA: 3.6 UW ( at elite private school. took more rigorous courses than the majority of my classmates/a year above in math.)
school doesnt offer APS until you are a junior, and we only offer about 10 courses; most people take 2-3. I have taken 7.
3.3 GPA freshman year but significantly increased soph/junior year,

-Have done 5 independent study projects with my professsors.

ECS:
-Founder of business & entrepreneurship club
-Started profiting business at MIT launch summer program. (also serve as a mentor for them)
-Founded nonprofit organization that collects computer donations for other computer science nonprofuts to teach low income students how to code. Multiple partnerships.
-Created an algorithm with a Brown University professor of computer science who is a family friend (he is writing a rec for me)
-Vice president of a non profit that helps low income students with the college process
-Founder of GirlUp club at my school, where I established a mentorship program with younger female students and raised money for womens education
-President of Girls Who Code club where i oversaw a project to build a study tool app for kids at our school
-Partnership director of a non profit that teaches computer science to middle school aged youth
-Founded an organization to promote Girls in entrepreneurship–held workshop and provided mentoring.
-Project manager at company for 4 years
-Self taught programmer for 6 years

-Glowing counselor and teacher recs (counselor says I am the next Cheryl sandberg blah blah blah)
-supplemental recs from head of MIT Launch and Brown Professor of Computer science.

I know my GPA is not my strong suit, but I hope that colleges will notice my upward trend.

Do you think I could get into Dartmouth ED??

Yes you could, but no, I wouldn’t bank on it. Your ECs are definitely good enough, as well as SATs. It is definitely worth using your ED there I definitely think you would be able to get in as long as you write strong essays. Also, if your GPA sophomore/junior were around or above 3.8-3.85 you have a pretty good chance.

@vanillagurlll With the resources of an “elite private school” your college advisor should be able to give you a much better idea of your odds than you’ll find here.

I don’t do chance me’s, but your GPA is only important relative to the rest of your class. In other words, what is your class rank? 96% of the people admitted into the class of 2021 were in the top 10% of their class. But regardless of your rank, you should work on making a very compelling argument as to what makes you a good fit for Dartmouth. That’s what will differentiate you from the rest of the applicants.

Don’t forget that you should submit a peer rec as well.
