so this whole college thing has taken me for a ride. whether its a joyous one or not im still deciding. haha.

i started off the year at SFSU and realized it just wasnt for me so i transfered back home to finish the year at a JC. im a freshman just to make that clear.

how badly will the 2.7GPA i got in san fran affect my chances of transfering to either UO (oregon) or UT Austin, both for their business programs? right now im doing well in all of my classes at the JC and i think i can pull a 4.0 but assuming i get more of a 3.7 are my chances already shot down from my slacking at a mediocre cal state?

You cant apply to the UO business school until after you have taken the pre-reqs and I think you need a 3.0 to be accepted into the business school

I agree with brand-182 with the issue of UT- Austin's McCombs School of Business. Considering your G.P.A, it seems highly unlikely you will get in (sorry if that seemed harsh). Their business program is ranked 19 in the nation according to Forbes/CNN, therefore meaning its super competitive. But never say never. I think you have ample time to pull up your G.P.A. before applying.

I mean, a good college GPA is probably a bit more important than a good HS GPA at this point, even though both are considered equally important, if I was an adcom, I'd prefer to see a upward trend rather than downward.

ohcomely are you a Texas resident or have you attended a h.s. in Texas. If so you might be at an advantage. Does anyone know if that automatic top ten percent admission rule applies anymore for high school grads in the state of Texas?? By advantage I mean this:

I've also spoken with an adcom who said test scores and HS transcripts, if competitive or indicative of an upward trend, are helpful. Of course, college GPA is the most important factor, but other things come into play if they are submitted.

dam. im really kicking myself for slacking the first semester of college. but whats done is done. i guess ill just try to pull off as good of a GPA as i can from this point forward. do you think it will have any effect if my college GPA this next semester has a very increased upward trend? especially because even tho i am taking classes that are general ed, they all have to do with business, which is what i intend to major in at either place. just trying to see what i can do to make things work in my favor.

I wanted to apply to UT-McCombs also, but I don't have the calculus and the MIS requirements met (only taken Business Calc.) and no MIS yet despite a 3.935 college GPA (after 4 semesters), so I'm also screwed... good luck

I don't have the MIS requirement either but have indicated on my app that I would take the class over the summer if accepted...you may be able to do the same with one class (especially the computer class, which is less important than the Calc classes) but probably not with 3 classes. From conversations with those in admissions, it seems that the Calc sequence (and grades received) is the most important.

Honestly, you have no chance of getting into UT.

You have a very good chance of getting into Oregon. I have a 2.9 and got in as a pre-business major (which is what you apply as), but I think I'm going to change to Economics.
