I applied for FSU back in the fall during the first round, and was denied. At the time I had a 3.0 GPA, 28 ACT, and 4 honors classes. Since then I have raised my GPA to 3.4, my ACT to a 29, and have taken 6 honors classes.

FSU is my dream school, and I was SO dissapointed when I didn't get in. I have other friends with similar GPA's but far lower ACT's who were accepted to the university, so I was even more discouraged. I also felt at a disadvantage because the high school I'm attending operated on a 5 point grading scale (ex: 95-100 is and A), instead of the 10 point used by all the public schools in our area. I called and spoke with an admission advisor at FSU, and they informed me that the calculate GPA's based solely on the grades reported by my high school, regardless of the point scale.

I'm enrolled at the University of West Florida for fall, and I'm hoping that if I keep my grades up I have a chance of being able to transfer as soon as possible.

Does FSU allow spring semester transfers? And would I have a better chance of transferring in spring, summer, or fall term?

Thank you so much for any advice you can give me!

FSU does accept a limited amount of Spring transfers. From what I’ve heard, Summer is probably the easiest term to transfer. Spring is the most difficult term for transfer acceptance, so don’t hold your breath. Just work hard and transfer after your first or second year.

FSU’s average FTIC GPA is 3.71 (current CDS). A person with a 3.0 to 3.24 GPA represents only 10.3% of the enrolled freshman class. Those admitted with that GPA likely had additional qualities the university found significant.

A freshman spring transfer is RARE because you will have no freshman college grades to base admission on. Your college fall semester grades will not be available until mid/late December with spring term starting early January. Your best bet is to apply for summer or fall of 2011.

If you study the FSU transfer requirement you will see that anyone applying with 12-59 credit hours (ie no AA) have to meet both FRESHMAN REQUIREMENTS and transfer requirements, so your high school GPA an scores are still considered. And it appears you need at least 12 hours of credit COMPLETED to apply. That would mean you can’t apply while you are in your freshman fall semester for spring, but you can apply during spring for summer or fall.

I suggest you get to 60 credits and then apply for transfer. - Your HS work will not be factored in, and you’ll be MUCH more likely to be accepted, rather than someone with under 60.

I applied when I had 51 credits (60 by that semester’s end), a 3.29 GPA (went to 3.47 after I redid a class at my previous university), and applied as crim. major (since changed to double major in history and classics). - Got accepted about 8 weeks after sending my app. out.

One could transfer after their very first college semester. FSU asks for how many credits you WILL have by the time you START your 1st semester at FSU. I only had 51 when I applied, but my app. said 60, since 60 is what I arrived at FSU with. Applied in the fall, for the spring.
