<p>Basics: White male, suburban, Jewish
School: Very large, somewhat competitive (8-12 Ivies per year, usually Columbia and the rare Yale) public school in suburban NJ (2200 students, 530 in my class)
Rank: School doesn't report rank but I'm probably about the 85th percentile
GPA: School goes on 0-100 scale, currently 95.3 weighted (90.3 UW on a tough schedule)
Probable major/minor: Poli Sci...considering minoring in Anthropology</p>

<p>SAT: March '09- 2040 (680 CR/740 M/620 W, 8 essay)
May '09- 2210 (750 CR/660 M/800 W, 9 essay)
Superscore is 2290 (750 CR/740 M/800 W, 9 essay)</p>

<p>SAT II: June '09; Lit: 730, Math I: 710</p>

<p>EC: 140 hours volunteering at a local retirement home...2 years on school newspaper staff, one year as Copy Editor...3 years on undefeated conference champion Quiz Bowl team</p>

<p>Work: Umpire for local youth baseball league...counselor in training at overnight camp</p>

<p>AP: 5 on English Lang...school doesn't offer any APs to sophomores and very few to juniors</p>

<p>Senior schedule: APs: Lit, Gov, Psych, Macro...non-APs: Pre-Calc, and Culinary Arts ftw</p>

<p>Summers: Summer before junior year at overnight camp as counselor in training...summer before senior year at BU High School Honors Program taking 2 classes for credit</p>

<p>Other: NMS Commended Student
Journalism Student of the Year for my school as a sophomore</p>

<p>-Great rec from History teacher, good rec from English teacher
-Good rec from head of volunteers at the retirement home
-Solid, not spectacular counselor rec
-Great essays, if I do say so myself</p>

<p>Legacies: Uncle graduated from Johns Hopkins Phi Beta Kappa, but unfortunately JH doesn't count an uncle as an official legacy...still reported him as a relative that attended on the Common App supplement</p>

<p>For the BU summer program I earned a B in Religion and Culture (100 level course) and a B+ in Intro to Poli Sci (basic Poli Sci 101 course) ...with BU's notorious grade deflation I'd say this would look good for my application.</p>

<p>Overall, what are my chances for Hopkins ED? And, while we're at it, chances for the following RD: BU, GW, American, and U of Maryland (EA)?</p>

<p>I’d say that you’re a low match for Hopkins (I know a friend who got in with identical statistics and somewhat similar EC’s). So long as you had a good essay and good recommendations, you should most likely get in. I won’t chance you for your other schools as, I don’t think, there would be a point (since you should get into Hopkins ED).</p>

<p>I think you have a good chance at Hopkins, you just need to writes really good essay that show what kind of person you are in way that stands you out from others.
i pretty sure your in at all of your other schools</p>

<p>@jconway: My JHU supplement essay focused on my passion for Poli Sci, and I and the college counselor I worked with thought it was excellent. My Common App essay focused on one of my EC’s and I thought that one was great also.</p>

<p>in everywhere. i say you will get in hopkins, but it’s still a competitive school so i say you have like 70% chance. expect the worst, hope for the best!</p>
