I have done a horrendous job on the SATs. I've been working so hard since October 2011 & I haven't gotten anywhere close to my score goal. I took the SATs four times. Just when I was feeling hopeless, I realized there is light at the end of the tunnel. I'm taking the ACTs. I know a lot about SATs even though my scores don't prove it. I had a SAT tutor for 9 months. If my parents & I feel it's needed after the practice tests I take, then I'll proceed to get one. What should I study for the ACTs? I understand the scoring system, the different types of sections. How long is the test? What book should I purchases besides the the official Red Book? I'm really hoping to use a better score as my back up when applying for colleges. I am going to be a senior this upcoming school year, so I'm hoping to take the ACT in September or October. Any knowledge or advice you have is appreciated! Thank you!

The whole test is 205 minutes if you are taking the essay part.

Don’t just suddenly change. just stick to the SATs… it just shows your not working hard enough…

try taking one practice ACT test and see how well you do. The SAT and ACT are different enough for a lot of people to distinguish which one they are better at, so maybe the SAT just isn’t suited for you as well as the ACT

I say that after taking the SAT so many times and not seeing much improvement, you may find that the ACT is for you. Buy a review book such as the Princeton Review. Many students prefer the ACT because there is no guessing penalty like the SAT (and if you run out of time you can just picks a random letter and bubble it for the remaining questions), and there is also not much vocabulary, if any, tested on the ACT. Good luck and don’t give up!
