horrendously failed my test T.T I'm FEELING SO BADDDD

so I had an engineering mechanics exam a while ago and did absolutely horrible on it. I got a 15% on the exam . . . . The exam was out of 20 points all Free response. It was worth 20% of my final grade. the curve makes 65 - 66% a passing grade. Do i still have a chance at passing the class ?

Thank you!

Update: i have 2 more test - 1 midterm worth 20% and 1 final worth 35%. I completed all my homework worth 25%(possibly getting 23 - 24% from getting points taken away from minor mistakes)

it depends on all the other aspects that go into your grade. If you are really concerned I would talk to your professor and if you are in danger of failing he or she might have some helpful advice to get your grade back up to where it needs to be. They might also suggest a tutor possibly a student who has taken the course previously and can help you succeed. Best of luck.

Seriously, if you’re an engineering student you should be able to do grade calculations. Multiple each assignment score (the percent) by its weight, and add all those up. That’s your final grade in the class.

0.20 * (15) + 0.25 * (90) + 55 ( ? ) = final grade
15 = exam 1 score, 95 = est. homework score, ? = remaining assignments, and you want your final grade to be a 65
0.20 * (15) + 0.25 * (90) + 55 ( ? ) = 65
Solve for the ?
? = ~72

So, you need to be averaging roughly 72% or better on the remaining assignments to pass the class. So mathematically yes, of course you can pass the class. That’s assuming your “65% is passing” was for your overall class grade.

BUT in order for that to happen, you need to turn things around. Start going to office hours, a study group, tutoring, whatever to keep yourself on track in the class. And be sure to learn from your mistakes, look over the failed exam and see if you can pinpoint why you struggled (lack of prep, certain kinds of questions, time/anxiety, hard material). Old practice exams from the class might also be a good study tool, if the style of question or the time/pressure of exams affected your work.

Reminds me of an old saying… F = Forgive yourself F= figure out what went wrong and make a plan to fix it. F= Find a friend (or professor) to help. F = Forget it, and move on. Follow the four steps - you will be Fine.
