I studied for it too. Basically, the two topics I forgot to study were about 50% of the test, and I had no idea what to do. I probably got a 40-50. It is 25% of our final grade.
I got an A/100 on our presentation, which was 15% of our grade.
I only missed one class, which is allowed. So I got 100 on attendance, which is 20%
Homework, I did every one on time but got some bad grades. I average this as 80, which is 20%
Midterm I got a 79, which was 20% of our grade.
A 65 or below is failing. I could get a D and still be able to graduate, but I am so worried. What are the chances? I don’t know how to calculate this. I took the lowest possible score I got, a 40, added 100 for the presentation, 100 for attendance, 80 for homework, and 79 for midterm. I also rounded all off to 20%, I got a 79.8, but with how terrible I did on the final that sounds too high.
Look at it this way - out of 100 points you need 65 to pass. You got all 15 of the presentation points, all 20 of the attendance points, 16 out of the 20 homework points, and 15.8 out of 20 midterm points. So in total you had 66.8 points going into a final exam. You could have not gone to the final and still passed.
That doesn’t seem right. I passed everything except for the final. I got the 79.8 by adding 100 (project) + 100( attendance) +40 (final) + 79 (midterm) + 80 (homework) and divided the result by 5 and got a 79.8. I doubt that would be off by 14 points.
But, you didn’t account for the weighting of each component of your grade. You can’t just divide by 5.
Attendace, Midterm, and Homework were all worth the same 20%. The final was 25% and the project 15%. It is probably off by a bit then, but is it below 65? If I got the higher end of what I could have got on the final (50 instead of 40) I would probably be passing I think. Just worried I got a 40. :\
.15 x 100 + .20 x 100 + .2 x 80 + .2 x 79 + .25 x 40 = 76.8%, worst case scenario.
I just got my grade. I got a B… I am so happy!
That’s not how you figure out weighted grades. You multiply the grade you got in each category by the percent it’s worth, then add those totals together. (The percents should add up to 100%.)
Presentation grade (100) x 15% (.15) = 15 points
Attendance (100) x 20% (.20) = 20 points
Homework grade (80) x 20% (.20) = 16 points
Midterm grade (79) x 20% (.20) = 15.8 points
Final exam grade (50) x 25% (.25) = 12.5 points
Total points: 15 + 20 + 16 + 15.8 + 12.5 = 79.3
If you got a B in the class, you either estimated your homework grades incorrectly, did better on the final than you thought, or both.
