All of you guys talk about having perfect SATs, gpa, rank... but do you know anyone with horrible stats (like SAT I lower than 1300 (old) or 2000(new) that got ino Harvard? what was their hook? what about athletes or internationals for example?

comments?? anyone???

I'll let you know after I get my decisions..... : [
But yeah...I guess it's pretty tough

are you being recruited?

can you please give some examples???

I have an athlete friend who was looking into a bunch of schools last year. She was looking at Yale (not Harvard) and they told her that if she got 1150 she would be admitted. She couldn't do it, but now she's at Georgetown and doing fantastically.

which sport? was she really good at it, like a world class athlete?

the thing is though, even if she isn't a world class athlete... are you an exceptional athlete? sorry, i find myself asking the same questions all the time... its just that i/we/everyone can go round and round saying well this person got in with a 1200.. but they were great at football... that doesnt mean we are going to get in w/ a 1200, even IF we were good at football (which i'm not, although i played)

well..being exceptional is very relative.. I might not be a world class athlete but in the ivy league i can win 1st place..

She plays golf. Maybe she needed just a 1200 to get in; I don't remember the specifics.

but do you know somebody that actually got into an ivy despite low stats?

Just curious,

Jav....did you apply this year and are trying to kill time? Or are you getting ready to apply next year? Let's see...I have on ok G.P.A., low (low) SAT's, good EC's, and am (I are...jk) Hispanic. So really, all I can say is that I will keep you posted once I find out in a few days. Best of luck!

you guys are dreaming...........you are talking HARVARD!! I have two cousins there both to whom I am very close, and my best friend got in this year eary. if you don't have at least 2150 on SAT's, AMAZING grades with tons of AP'S plus all the other obvious criteria, you are basically wasting $75 on the application or whatever it is. It is widely reported that it has gotten even more cut throat and this massive onslaught of applications to all schools thanks to the baby boomers will continue until 2009, so you are talking about tougher stats and many more people that are all fully able to apply with great credentials, truly in Harvards case, its only for the cream of the crop. I am just being realistic.........that is all. Don't want you to waste your time on something that is truly a pipe dream, bettter to spend your time concentrating on schools that would be a good fit for you, you don't even want to be in an atomosphere where you won't fit in.

well... what if a coach is recruiting me... should i say.. oh please don't, I have way too low SAT.. It's a fact that people with low SAT and notsoperfect grades were accepted...

well if a coach is recruiting you thats a different animal all together! Just do your best to get those grades up, take the most challenging courses you can handle, take another SAT to show you really care and keep your fingers crossed! What sport and what school specifically? All the best!

my grades are max.. as is class rank..(IB student..) but my SAT is low.. like 75%... but i'm an international student...

kellyconn1,

Some girl on myspace got into Columbia ED with only a 1940 new SAT - She was neither a legacy, nor an athlete.

where is she from?

URM? (10 characters)

Kelly...that was quite a (with all due respect--not) B!TCH move....but I guess that if you fear someone less "qualified" will beat you in, you might reply in that manner. But I mean....we'll see come Thurday ;)
Best of luck...to everyone EXCEPT Kelly
