DS will be visiting UNC and Duke in a few weeks (two night stay). We would appreciate a few recommendations for a clean/inexpensive hotel. A location between the two universities would be ideal.

If you’re looking for something convenient Rt. 15-501 runs right in between Duke and UNC and has several hotels at the intersection of 15-501 and Mt. Moriah Rd. Just by looking at GoogleMaps I see a Homewood Suites, Staybridge Suites, Springhill Suites, and Comfort Inn. The Springhill Suites is definitely clean as my parents stayed there for a parents’ weekend. Not sure about price though.

Appreciate the recommendations and look forward to the visit!

Whenever I’m in the area I stay in Chapel Hill at the Hotel Siena (on Franklin St), which is 10 minutes away from UNC-Chapel Hill and 15 minutes away from Duke (use exit 107 off of I-15 to get onto west campus). It’s also really close to Southpoint and other cool areas (Chapel Hill beats Durham face down), and has a shuttle service to UNC-Chapel Hill.

I have gone to Duke TIP for the past couple of years, so I am pretty well adjusted to the area, and I love this hotel. It is somewhat pricey, but the restaurant (it’s sort of a boutique hotel) there is amazing!

Also, parking at Duke wasn’t a problem (we got the last spot in front of the admissions office), but parking at UNC was a bit of an issue. However, you can park in front of Jackson Hall, but you need to get a yellow parking pass from the receptionist desk. If they have run out, you need to park in one of the nearby lots, but you will probably end up spending around 4 hours there due to the long tours, so be ready to shell out $6.

You will be doing a lot of walking (especially at Duke), so wear comfortable shoes and - more importantly - wear clothes that you are comfortable sweating in and have some bottled water.

Have an awesome time! I love the Triangle!

I aagree with bluedevil’s recommendations for places to stay in betwe the 2 schools. There is a shopping center right by those hotels so its an easy walk for a meal.
