Hotel near campus

Any suggestions on a clean, inexpensive, close to campus hotel?

Best suggestion I have is to search a discount hotel site with your travel dates and see what is available (Kayak, Hotwire, Priceline, etc.). Rates are very much dependent on what is happening in the area on those dates. If you are looking to be close to campus, rates can be pretty hefty but there are often specials. When we visit, we often stay in Durham or RTP which are within 10 miles of downtown Chapel Hill. Very nice choices there for $55-80 range. I have also stayed at the Siena for as little as $70 and the Carolina Inn for $100.

I’ve stayed pretty much everywhere around campus from 2 Star to 4 Star rooms and book most often through Priceline. Prices and availability often dependent on who they’re playing in football/basketball.

Aloft $125 (Parents Weekend)
Red Roof Inn $29 (Durham-10 minutes)~This is a motel and trucker stop, but rooms are newly renovated & clean
Carolina Inn-$75 (walk to campus)
Sheraton $50 (Southpoint Mall-Durham-15 minutes)/This is my favorite stayed here 4-5 times
Quality Inn $39 (Chapel Hill/motel/10 minutes)
Holiday Inn $39 (Cary, 20 minute drive, but this price for a 3 star hotel couldn’t be passed up)

Thank you for helpful information

Did you really get the Carolina Inn for $75?

We go to UNC a lot for sporting events, and we usually stay in Durham (I think that’s where it is?) at the LaQuinta. According to my dad, it’s super cheap, and they have a nice indoor swimming pool! Maybe 10 mins from campus!

@keepittoyourself I did (twice) on Priceline, but don’t tell them I told you.

@Amazhon, I just went on Priceline to get a quote at the Carolina Inn for next Tuesday, and the price was $150…

Home Basketball game next Tuesday…

That makes sense! Oh well, I guess I’ll be staying at a different hotel "/

Is there a shuttle service from airport to campus?

The public Triangle Transit bus is $2.00 and runs Mon thru Sat to/from RDU. Getting to/from UNC and RDU requires 1 transfer at their transit hub, but, it is really easy. UNC also runs direct shuttles to RDU on departure and return days for most school breaks.

There is new Hampton Inn in Carrboro - it is one of the closest hotels to campus (Carrboro and Chapel Hill adjoin along Franklin Street). However, since it is new, the prices may be a bit high.

Also, the Aloft Hotel - reasonable and they run a shuttle to UNC M-F I believe.

Both Aloft and the Hampton Inn are an easy walk from UNC (under 2 miles to aloft, about a mile to the Hampton Inn), and serviced by the free buses.
