Hotels Near Campus

Any students or parents have any particular recommendations for accomdations in Durham for orientation/parent's weekend? Near campus/easy access to campus/reasonable prices/horror stories/anything?

Love the Courtyard on E. Front Street, about 5-10 minutes to campus. Couple of restaurants right across the street and Bistro in lobby is delicious. Very accommodating

Ditto Courtyard - it was very nice. Also stayed at Washington Duke Inn on one trip - it is very convenient, but prices are high.

Along Rt. 15-501, which is the road leading to Chapel Hill, there are dozens of chain hotels. You will find a variety of options, including prices, all within fifteen minutes of campus. Since there are so many, using an internet travel search site will likely turn up good bargains.

Thanks, parents. (: I’m looking at Brookwood right now and we’re about to book-- any specific experiences? The reviews are all mostly good, and nothing horribly bad (including an accusation of bedbugs, which is a complaint that has ruled out a couple of chains).

I have stayed there for 2 nights when I visited the school. It is nice hotel and there is shutter service to the school. Of course, you have to pay the tip for the service. It is very convenient.

By the way, orientation start on 8/21 or 8/20? If start on 8/21, then my flight departure day will be on 8/20. If event starts on 8/20, then I have to change the departure day to 8/19. Please clarify it. Also for parent, do you stay for two days? I saw parent events from 8/21 to 8/22 for last year. Not sure what event schedule for this year.
Thanks.

Move-in is on 8/20, which is a Tuesday. Parent orientation will begin Tuesday with move-in and conclude Wednesday evening. The info is on page 11 of the Orientation section of the Blue Book.

Brookwood is a good choice…fairly inexpensive and very convenient, Stayed there for move in/orientation and parents weekend last year. No complaints!!!

On campus, with West campus parking, are:

  1. The Washington Duke Inn, an absolutely superb – five star, five diamond – hotel.
  2. The Thomas Center, located on the Fuqua Campus, which is also good, although slightly less expensive and luxurious.
Both are a ten minute stroll from the Chapel, Cameron, and so forth.
