well, i recently opened up my mind to this..my uncle is a hotel owner and practically a millionaire, so i guess im now considering this field as a possible career.

is it prestigious to get into like a hotel management school such as Cornell? or would it be better to just get an MBA and do undergrad at another good university

First, never go into anything for the money. NEVER. If you just are thinking "Oh, Hotel Management, I could make a bundle," then look elsewhere for a field which you are truly interested in. If you don't enjoy it, you'll be either bored out of your mind for the rest of your life, or forced to go back to school.

You should try to get some experience in the business to see if you like it or not. Can your uncle give you an (unpaid?) internship to try out working at a hotel? If not, can you look elsewhere to get an internship?

Last summer, the dean of admissions at Cornell taught one of my classes, and his take on the hotel school was that experience mattered more than ANYTHING else, grades, SATs, recommendations(unless from hotel experience). Cornell wants to get people who are actually interested in a carer in hotel management. Yes, Cornell is one of the best hotel schools in the US. It is nothing to scoff at; Cornell is a great university and you (to my knowledge) can take whatever classes you want outside of the hotel school.

To answer your final question: If you want to become a hotel manager, go to hotel school. If you have no clue what you want to do with your life, go to a LAC.
