Cornell Hotel

Can anyone describe the academic and social life at the Cornell Hotel School? And possibly the jobs opportunities/contacts you gain?

I am choosing between Cornell Hotel and a full-tuition scholarship at WashU Olin

blunt question: can you afford cornell?

with financial aid, the cost is the same

I wouldn’t go to the hotel school unless your sure you want to work in a hotel

Hotel school all the way. The classes are fun and interesting. It is true that they are very focused on the hospitality industry, but the school itself has a small school feel in a large campus and everyone is awesome!

OH! and the alumni base is amazing! You can pretty much get an internship anywhere in the summer by using the alumni base. It is also incredible how many high-up industry leaders are alumns. The hotel school really provides great opportunities for future internships and jobs.

You are very misinformed - only a small percentage of Hotel School students go on to work in a hotel. To be honest, I have no interest in hotels. The beauty of the Hotel School is that is gives you a business background with a focus on hospitality, so you can pretty much do anything with your degree - operations, finance, real estate, marketing, investment banking, accounting, development, culinary arts, IT…anything! But the thing that ties everything together is the INCREDIBLE alumni network and strength of the Hotel School community. As soon as you are accepted into the Hotel School, you are a hotelie for life. Not to mention…the Hotel School is the best of its kind in the world ;)

As a transfer to CHS from another hospitality school (not mentioned for obvious reasons), I have to say that CHS is truly unrivaled by my former school.

I used to think my former school was “one of the best” for the industry, but I see now that it was sort of a joke in comparison to the education I am getting from the Hotel School; additionally, the difference between the caliber of students from my first school and CHS is astronomical.

Make the right choice ;)
