Hotels near ucsd are like around 150 usd :(( per night but hotels under 100usd are slighty far.what will be the cost of
transport if i stay 6-8 miles from ucsd ?If i stay near ucsd , would this compensate for the taxi fare?please help

UCSD is located near the beach in an expensive area. Hotels can be pricey. Look for hotels along bus routes to save money. Here’s Some public transportation info for the UCSD area:
<a href=“Transportation Services”>Transportation Services;
Try looking for hotels on Genesee Ave or Mira Mesa Blvd which are on the bus routes. There may be other hotels on good bus routes as well with a little searching.

here is a suggestion, stay at a hotel that cost 100.00 and call Lyft http://www.yelp.com/biz/lyft-san-diego instead of calling a cab. It’s a car with the pink mustache which is the craze in many cities in California. They are a lot cheaper than a regular cab. You can use Uber as well, but Lyft seems to have better ratings, however my son who goes to UCSD swears with Uber. He took an Uber from Downtown San Diego to UCSD and it cost him $20.00 plus you can select what kind of car you would like on the app.

UCSD is not that close to the beach. It is very near the I-5 freeway and the hotels tend to be expensive. Cabs in San Diego are notoriously expensive. There is an area called Sorrento Valley which is one exit away from Genessee Avenue (leads up to Torrey PInes Road) but because it is near Qualcomm, the cost is pricey but there are lots of hotels in that area. You need a car in San Diego because public transportation is there, but is infrequent and does not pick up as often as most other cities. The trolley covers the metropolitan areas of San Diego and is nowhere near UCSD.

We have stayed at the Sorrento Mesa Extended Stay America for well under $100, but everything is more expensive in summer, and during move-in/move-out (and Comic-Con!!!) times. UCSD is actually quite close to the beach (my son can easily walk to the beach while carrying his surfboard in well under 15 minutes), and La Jolla is a very expensive area, so the farther you can stay from the campus, the cheaper it will get. When are you planning to get a hotel… during move-in??? If so, and you have to get all of your stuff to campus and maybe shop for more stuff, it might be worth it to stay nearby so you can easily go back and forth. You can also look at the Zip Car program which allows you to “borrow” a car on a short–term basis to get around - just google UCSD Zip Cars.
