Cheapest hotel and way to travel to UCSD?

I live in san jose CA, and my parents and I will be going down to UCSD for admit day. Where is the cheapest place to stay near UCSD? We will most likely be driving, unless the places to stay are so expensive that it would be cheaper to just do a one day fly there and fly back for admit day. If that is the case, what is generally the cheapest airline to fly there?

yah im from Sunnyvale CA and ill be heading down there to admit day too. but gah la jolla is sp pricey… so i need help finding a cheap hotel or inn to stay at too…

I’m from LA and visiting Cal… I found tickets for $49 one way on southwest airlines. For 3 of us, it costs about $350 round trip. The rates might be similar from San Jose to SD. However, this is kind of last minute. For tickets that cheap, you might need to have booked a few weeks in advance.

I live in San Diego and I would imagine there would be pretty decent rates in University City which is right outside of La Jolla. Hotels in Hotel Circle, which are about a twenty minute drive to the campus, I think run just over $100/night.

@comp sci guy! thanks!!
are you gonna go to UCSD next year??

=) Visiting UCSD April 12-13. yaaay.

Yup. Unless my deferral for Stanford turns into an acceptance pon Wednesday, but you know, I’m so happy with UCSD, I actually hope I don’t have to even make the decision. I’d just feel sort of pressured to go with the big name school. I worked on the Stanford campus last summer for a kids computer camp and I actually think I prefer UCSD.

Hey!

What school did you attend, OP? I’m from San Jose as well. (Silver Creek High) My family drove down, and we ended up saving only a bit compared to flying down. So either way, the price should be the same. (Driving was more fun, in my opinion).

As for Hotels, if it’s just admit day, grab a motel and save some. All you need is a bed!

Cheapest Airline would be American Airlines.

Try some hotels in the Mira Mesa / Clairemont Area, they are about 10 minutes from UCSD but will save you money

here’s one i found: http://www.homesteadhotels.com/</a> choose san diego then sorrento mesa

i attend lynbrook high

if i were to choose, i would rather fly down there (only 1 hour compared to 8+ hour drive)
we have a party of 4, and so far it would seem that getting a hotel for 2 days is cheaper than buying 4 round trip plan tickets

lynbrook high!!
hey youre in my district
FUHSD yeeeeee:D

what’s the best way to get to UCSD from the san diego airport?

and by best… i mean cheapest :o

by bus (sdcommute.com)

I would say just to walk … LMAO

The cheapest hotel would be to find a friend at UCSD and crash at their dorm.
