We have a freshman who has enrolled for the Fall. We know that hotels and motels fill up very soon for move-in times and family week-end. The place we are staying for orientation is already filled up for move in week. I heard that there is a lot more availability if you are willing to drive 20 minutes or so to campus. That would be fine with us. Any suggestions for a place to stay that is likely to have some availability? Thanks.

Where are you staying for orientation? There are several chain hotels near Briarwood Mall that I would think there should be openings. Also there are a couple hotels on Plymouth Road at the US-23 junction which would be convenient if your child is moving into north campus. If you find A2 completely booked, I would suggest looking at Canton (east of A2) Ford Road and I-275, you will be close to IKEA. Also little further north along I-275 there are hotels in Livonia at Six Mile and Seven Mile exits and Northville at the 8 Mile Exit. If you are planning to come for parents weekend or for a football game any other weekend, you should probably make those reservations soon

There is a Motel 6 on State St/Airport Drive that is just 3.9 miles south of Campus and a couple blocks away from Briarwood Mall. It is in walking distance to McDonald, Costco, and Zingerman’s Bakehouse. It is still available at ~$60-$100/night depending on the date.

My boy is a junior (senior next year) in COE and we always stay at the Red Roof Inn Plymouth Road at the US-23 junction. Inexpensive (need to save as much as possible in light of 50K OOS tuition/fees/housing) and really convenient

Thanks so much for all your responses!
