Yeah Batman, I know what you mean. I’m stuck in a triple this year and it bites. One of my roommate constantly farts so much that I wonder if something is up with his bowel functions, no joke.

Really? Not getting a decent roommate is that common?? hmmm where do you guys all live?

Go with a co-op:

[Welcome to the Berkeley Student Cooperative](http://www.bsc.coop/)

Getting a roommate will not be a problem.

For those who have lived off-campus: I live in a house right now and pay $900 for a single. Our landlord is raising the rent by $50 so next month it’ll be $950. I think it might be possible for me and my housemates to find a cheaper place, but rather unlikely. Should I just be satisfied with paying $950 for a single?

P.S. Berkeley rent is so damn expensive compared to some other college campuses though =/

Well Berk’s got so many kids, if you reject, I’m sure someone would be glad to take it.

A lot of my friends have good roommates so don’t worry too much

Yeah, you’ll definitely be fine if you wait a bit longer (until mid-March or early April). Last year I was looking for a house with several people and our group ended up splitting because half of us freaked out about not having a place fairly early on. Later in the semester there were many more options and I ended up in a really nice and close north side apartment because I held out for something better.

I looked at over 40 places within a 2mi radius of Berkeley before I finally decided on an apartment. The process took me one month.

You’re going to see a lot of unsatisfactory places, so start looking now!

there’s nothing right now though. it’s mainly just move in within the next month stuff…or am i just not searching properly?

There’s also the factor of what you’re looking for. The higher the standards you have for a house (and in my case, the size of the house was significant as we needed 5+BR) the sooner you need to start looking. For example, if it is just 1 or 2 of you, you can probably wait until the end of the summer and still be fine.

i’ve been looking for 4+BR, but everything is still asking to move in right now…

Did you try emailing them and seeing? I doubt most of them will be able to rent to people willing to move in right now, so I think you’d have a shot if there was an interesting place. I know I started looking for 4+BR’s at the same time last year, and all of them were looking for June move-in.

Are there any nice apartments near campus that are reasonably priced and not nasty? I’ve been on the hunt for a new apt for awhile and most of them are really gross. Anybody live in an apartment that they actually like? My lease is up soon and I don’t really like my roommates.

I found a studio place on northside for 750/month
There is no kitchen though, and the place is very old
Should I go for it? T_T I can’t decide

are you planning on microwaving and making pb/j sandwiches for the next year? lol

i just dont know what to do. If I take a place now, something better might come later. But if I risk it, all the good places now will be gone, and what if nothing comes later? Plus a ton of people start looking in April/May so there will be even more people to compete with. Should I be signing a lease now or waiting?

Oh, and is northside really that much quieter/safer than southside? I want to live there because it’s so close to all the science classes, but it’s a lot more expensive.

if you find something you like, take it. don’t wait.

Bumping this amongst all the new pre-freshies…

What’s a “good deal”? I’m looking at $600 (incl. utilities) for a single room in an apartment at University & California.
