Household Gross Income?!

I am an overseas U.S citizen applying to several UC schools. On the page of "Family Size and Incomes" they require a number for Household gross income. On my dads tax forms he has 2 different numbers that I think both qualify however these two numbers are very very different. Because we are expats, about a majority is tax deductible. On the line where it says "wages, salaries, tips etc" the number is over $100,000 yet after a large deduction the line where it says "this is your total income" and "this is your adjusted gross income" is about $20,000.

Which figure should I put? (keeping in mind that I am an out of state domestic applicant)

Will the number I put affect any merit aid that I might receive?

FAFSA would put it on Question 44 as untaxed income. See AVG-19 here: http://ifap.ed.gov/fsahandbook/attachments/1213AVGCh2.pdf

UC Application Tips (<a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors; ) says that section is optional.

Thanks a lot allyphoe!
