which houses remain open during the winter break?? i am an international and would be staying at Penn during the break, so i need to select one of the places which house students during the breaks as well..could anyone please throw some light on this?

I’m pretty sure the high rises (Harnwell, Harrison, Rodin) are the only ones open. Rodin is no longer accepting freshman applications for housing though. You can make separate arrangements for the winter if you normally live in a different college house though.

Yeah, the High Rises stay open – pretty much everything else closes (Fisher, Riepe, Ware, Gregory, DuBois, Stouffer, Mayer, King’s Court, and Hill).

You can either try to stay with a friend in the High Rises during that time. As of this moment, it’s going to be very difficult if not impossible to get a room in the High Rises, even if you talk to Housing Services.

Another option would be living in Stouffer, because there is a listserve that all residents can use to communicate with other students in the same college house via email (I am going to feel ■■■■■■■■ if other college houses do this too, but I know Stouffer does). You could, at some point during the year, use the listserve to ask about separate arrangements and if anyone would be willing to help out, etc.

does this mean that most Penn students return home during the winter break? i don’t have the means so i’ll need to stay put…i am still very confused.:(

Yes, most students leave campus for winter break (traveling, going home, etc). That does not mean, however, that there aren’t people that stay on campus. Most international students I know that stay put during winter break simply make arrangements with friends in the High Rises.
