Staying Through Breaks?

At Pitt, is there any possibility of me being able to stay through some of the longer breaks--i.e., winter break? I'm going to be an incoming freshman in Fall 2013, and I'd rather stay in Pittsburgh than go back home over breaks. Are dorms open? Are there classes available at that time?

Make a call to confirm, but I know kids do stay. The dining halls are not open if I remember correctly.

IIRC you have to go home for Winter Break-- the dorms close down as do the dining halls. In rare exceptions, Pitt will let you stay on campus. For the other ones (Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Spring Break) you can stay on campus. I think sometimes the dining halls are either limited hours or closed. I agree w/ MD Mom-- Call PC and see what they say.

I stayed for Spring Break. The dining halls were closed and a few coffee carts were open for a little bit each day, so I had to use real money at real stores to buy all my meals. It was really lonely, even though I’m completely fine with being alone and enjoyed the break. I’d probably just go home this year.

fyi there are buses home for breaks that leave directly from campus, they aren’t so expensive although for NJ, you either need to shlep from Allentown PA or NYC. Probably you can find people in your area to ride share from there. Winter break is def one you need to leave campus although the shorter breaks, people do stay, esp the oos.
