Housing: 1st come, 1st served based on receipt of payment

I just want to confirm that that is the case: that it is when payment is received by Housing that determines your position in the dormitory queue not, when you application was submitted.

Correct?

Not according to an earlier thread:

"First come first serve is based on the date you submitted your housing application online. The payment, License Agreement, Meningococcal Form, and Emergency Contacts are formalities that need to be met in order to confirm your housing. "

I recall that thread. However, when I went on my son’s mycalpoly it said, “Payments are accepted on a first come, first served basis.” Hence my insecurity.

He entered his preferences the first day he could (2/3 for ED) but I did not submit a payment and the license agreement until a month later believing immediate payment was not necessary.

Okay, I called Housing and was told it’s “kind of a combination of both”. The primary determinant is when they receive your selections. However, they will then look to see when/if payment was received. If it hasn’t they may move on to the next student particularly if the demand is high for those selections. I described what we had done and she said we were fine.

Does anyone know when they notify the students of which dorm assignment they get? (This is assuming they have received deposit and license agreement)

Well, they get their room assignments on August 20th according to this: [University Housing - Cal Poly](http://www.housing.calpoly.edu/oc_futr_frsh_earlyd_check.cfm)

However, they may learn what dorm they’ve got earlier on mycalpoly.com. Not sure about that though.

I’m a current student there and paid my deposit 2 weeks late after the initial due date – they were fine with it. With all the new apartments opening up in Poly Canyon this Fall, accommodating new students shouldn’t be much of a problem.
