So I’ll be a junior in the fall and I’m transferring in to COM. I’m between living in the more social dorms that have freshmen but aren’t all freshmen like the Towers and HoJo versus living in a suite in 1019 and Myles. Any suggestions? What would be the pluses and minuses? I’d like to meet new people but I don’t wanna feel like the odd one out being a junior surrounded by underclassmen.

Well this is the thing. 1019 is gonna leave you being isolated, unless you are EXTREMELY social. Most people have their cliches there and stay in their suites. Hojo is pretty good, also if you get into a brownstone you will become close with the whole house. Myles is huge and HIGHLY populated with freshman (but has the occasional senior and junior throughout it *my friends lived here sophmore year)

1019
Pro’s
-Near Fit Rec
-Near Allston party scene/frat scene besides MIT
-Near West Campus (The most greenery on campus and has one of the best dining halls)
-AC
-Suite Style Private Bathrooms

Cons
-Highly Isolated far from campus
-Long walks to class unless you don’t mind (in the winter it’s a *****)
-People stick to themselves

Hojo
Pro’s
-Near all classes for you!
-4 Dining halls nearby
-By the Library
-AC
-Private Bathroom
-Bigger Rooms depending on which floor
-Friendly Open Atmosphere (While being Private at times)
-Pool Table in the bottom floor with huge tv haha!

Con’s
-Older Building
-May have a lofted bed
-Not Enough Closet Space (depends on the person)
-May be too many freshman

I personally loved living in Hojo during my time there, I was able to make TONS of new friends after being isolated by my friends freshman year.

I’m personally transferring back and most likely going to end up living in South Campus or Bay State Road.

What about the Towers vs. HoJo?

With HoJo I honestly don’t know if I could survive living in a triple while with the towers I’m not sure I’d survive communal bathrooms…

It’s weird going back to freshman style living since at my current school I’d be past that

Towers is going to be mainly freshman. And also each floor is single sex, so every other floor will have your gender! Umm the rooms were recently remodeled, but note that the rooms are small so you are going to get close with your room mate QUICKLY! I haven’t lived there but, from when I visited that’s what I know about it. Myles is pretty decent also, but a lot quieter. When I visited my friends there I felt like no one was there. But Honestly if you want a suite go for it, because being in COM you will meet TONS of people rather quickly!

Oh towers are hojo are right behind each other literally, so they share the same Pro’s sans the AC regarding, closeness to dining halls and what not!

thanks you’ve been so helpful! Is HoJo only triples though? Do jrs live there?

Hojo, has triples doubles and singles. Also you can try the COM floors or houses. If there is a brownstone for it I would say go for it! Yeah Juniors and Sophmores are the majority, a few freshmen and a few seniors.

you’re making me actually lean towards HoJo! Is it less social because of the private bathrooms? I only saw a COM floor available in like west campus but I think I’ll meet enough COM students in classes and clubs anyway! Do you think theres a way I could request not to get a triple?

also what about danielsen or shelton?

Ok so the thing you can specify in your Housing that you would prefer a double. With Shelton, it’s suites and private bathrooms. I had friends that lived in these dorms and some of the rooms were huge! The thing with Shelton, Is that people are more secluded here. You can make friends easily during the first few weeks, but after that everyone really keeps to themselves. There are floor events and what not in all dorms but Shelton houses mainly Sophmores, Juniors and Seniors! If you want a suite I would say go for this dorm (It’s got a nice view of the charles river also and is right on Bay State Road which is gorgeous) Also another plus about it is the fact is it’s RIGHT by the kenmore train station, so if you want to explore boston you have easy access. And it’s not far from COM only like a 5 minute walk! Personally I would go for Hojo or Shelton. Myles is… eh I didn’t really like Myles cause it is awkwardly built and it feels like no one interacts there!

If you’d like PM me your email and i’ll try to get photos of the dorms for each of my friends. Hojo, Myles and Shelton.

Danielson is quite a bit ways off from Campus, it’s not that social but if you love to shop it’s literally a block from Newbury Street, the shopping area of Boston. It’s also a suite and and likes Myles. If you want quiet Danielson is good, oh also if you plan to go to MIT parties it’s right by the bridge that takes you to MIT so that’s a plus too lol!
