Housing- All your 2010 Questions Answered!

Okay, so maybe not all of your questions, but I’ve been provided a FAQ sheet from University that covers most of the critical questions at this point in time. As many of you know, we never do random room or roommate assignments unless we absolutely have to. Unfortunately at this point in time, we are no longer able to guarantee any new Roommate Profiler roommate pairings or hall preferences. Don’t worry- we will have a place for you on campus, but exact locations for those of you currently in “temporary” or “virtual” housing will be determined once the Academic Learning Community participation is confirmed in July and any extra spaces in those are opened.

I’ve included the FAQ below- let me know if anyone has any other questions.

Housing Assignments FAQ’s
June 7, 2010
Currently, the University of Arkansas is expecting record enrollment numbers for the Fall of 2010. In University Housing, we are also seeing an increase in the demand for on-campus housing. As a result, we have a number of students who currently have a temporary assignment or no assignment.
Note: A “temporary assignment” is not an actual room but a holding location that allows the student to log into Shop-N-Swap and select a room.
Our process and facilities are designed to handle the increased numbers while quickly working to place students into specific room assignments. Housing staff also receive high levels of training to appropriately socialize students into their new living and learning environments. Though roommate/suitemate concerns may arise, know that well over 90% of our on-campus students selected the residents with whom they will live with this coming year.
The script below is to assist you in answering questions you may receive however; you should not go beyond the limited responses provided. If the question is becoming more detailed or complicated refer them to contact assignment staff at University Housing (479-575-3951 or housing@uark.edu).

  1. I do not have a room assignment. When will I get one?
    a. If you are currently in temporary housing you should log into Shop-N-Swap frequently. Space opens when cancellations are received.

I do not have a room assignment but I know who I want to room with. Will I get to room with them?
a. Not at this time because a complete room opening up is very unlikely. However, if you are assigned to the same hall then you can work with the Coordinator for your hall after you move in to see if a room change is possible.

I want to change my hall assignment. How do I do that?
a. The waiting list will open Wednesday, September 8 and you can put your name on the list. You can sign up by going to the housing web site.

I do not have a room assignment and I do not have a Shop-N-Swap date or time. What does that mean?
a. That means you contracted after space was limited and you will be assigned by University Housing assignment staff sometime in July.

What if I don’t have a Shop-N-Swap date by June 15?
a. You should send housing an email with you university ID number, first and last name and top three (3) hall preferences. There is no guarantee we will be able to accommodate your request.

When does Shop-N-Swap close?
a. June 30 is the last day to select a room.

What happens after June 30?
a. Any students not assigned at that time will be assigned by University Housing staff.

Where can I find my room assignment?
a. Log into MyChecklist (myhoursing.uark.edu/mychecklist). You first must choose a move in time and answer the question about Resident Reserved Parking. After that your room assignment will show in the left hand menu bar under their name.

How do I sign up for Resident Reserved Parking?
a. You need to log into MyChecklist and choose a move in time. The next prompt will ask you if you want to sign up for the Resident Reserved Parking waiting list. This is a waiting list and does not guarantee you will be offered a Resident Reserved Parking permit.

When can I move in if I’m going through recruitment or attending ROCK CAMP?
a. Your name will be provided to University Housing by the appropriate office and you will be given a special move in date and time. Sorority recruitment is scheduled to move in Sunday, August 15 and ROCK CAMP I on Wednesday, August 11 and ROCK CAMP II on Sunday, August 15.
