So...I've heard people say you can narrow down which type of room you got by seeing how much you were charged on your basar's account. I've found my account and know how much I was charged for, but the value for Housing - East Campus doesn't match any of the ones listed in the Residence Life and Housing Services pamphlet. Any help?

did you double it? What's on your Bursar's account is only the first semester.

Doubling it worked. Now I feel like a total idiot for not thinking of that. But I'm happy cause I got a single like I wanted!!! Thanks for the response.

you're welcome!

Oh that's a nice trick, and it works out well cause I got my Bursar thing today (not getting the Bursar and owing 20K, but finding out).

I got a Double in either Blackwell, Randolph, or Bell Tower.

Anybody else?

^^Are those the only AC dorms? I got an airconditioned room and i don't wann apay for it. does anyone know what's the appeal procedure?

yeah, I have been e-mailing back and forth with both the housing and financial aid offices, and the only way to receive any aid for an AC room is to have previously requested a non-AC room, but received an AC room anyways. To request a room change I was told to go to housing's main website and search "reassignment" and it will take you to a page that shows you how to format your request. I visited the page and it seems quite simple.

Hope that helps!

Yea, according to the back of some pamphlet (probably the Housing one), those three dorms are the only three AC'd ones, and according to some, the newest and the best.

Personally, I'm pretty happy in getting one because I'm from Minnesota, and I don't think I would live very well in the Durham heat. :

Yup...CLEARLY, Blackwell is by far the best dorm on campus.
(But I'm a bit biased).

Yea I got a single with AC--based on location, do I want to request no AC? I'm just wondering about safety of how far these dorms are from everything else on East.
ALso would I rather be on the quad? If someone could say what the new ones are like (smaller rooms?) that would be great. THanks!

Haha. I love how far everyone thinks the A/C dorms are. The "faraway" Blackwell dorm is closer to the bus stop, West Duke, and East Duke than half the dorms on the Main Quad. It's the same distance from most of the dorms, just in another direction. The only dorms that the A/C dorms are sorta far from are Epworth, Bassett, Pegram, and I guess maybe Giles and Brown. If you've been on the East campus at all, you'd see how it's laid out - the only semi "far" dorms are Southgate and Bell Tower, only one of which is A/C, and everyone wants to live in Bell Tower (the A/C one) anyway. East Campus is so safe, it's insane. I walked from the library to my dorm in (gasp) Blackwell as late as 4 AM about 3-4 nights a week all by myself with a laptop in my bag and never, ever felt threatened.

And FYI, out of the 6 non-Main Quad dorms (Bell Tower, Southgate, G-A, Blackwell, Randolph, and Epworth), only 3 of those are A/C. So, yeah just warning you...just because you don't have A/C doesn't mean you're on the main quad. Not like you'll actually care about that once you start school.

Wait, when I said "newest and the best," I was only quoting other people. bandcampgirl, can you give us some reasons why you think its better than the others? Thanks, :)
