Hi
I’m curious what happens when we pay the housing application fee at one UC (500 dollars!!) and (knock on wood) the student gets in off the waitlist at a different UC. The Housing portal requires a fee to advance and we cannot pass without paying so don’t know what options there are on the other side. Do we get this fee back if the student decides to go to the waitlist school?
There’s nothing on the website that explains this or a help section or anything. Just deposit 500 dollars and go. Ugh. Of course the school’s deadline for housing applications is on Monday so we cant do the wait and see thing.
Thanks for any input or experiences!
Depending upon the UC, they usually refund the housing deposit by a certain deadline if you change your mind and accept another school.
Which UC?
UCD does not specifically state a deadline to get a refund on the deposit on their website. Also some UC’s will have a non-refundable housing processing fee. I would contact UCD housing to get the exact deadline to cancel.
From the UCD Housing Website:
**How to Cancel a Housing Application
Applicants may request to cancel their housing application by contacting Student Housing and Dining Services.
Applicants who have submitted a reservation fee need to contact Student Housing and Dining Services to cancel their application before the cancellation deadline passes in order to receive a refund minus a cancellation fee. Applicants should review the cancellation policy listed in contract for cancellation deadlines and refund schedule.
ooo didn’t see that! thanks @Gumbymom!
