Housing applications for fall 2010

Anybody have any idea how many housing applications for Fall 2010 have been received at this point?

My D paid the deposit a couple of weeks ago. However, we haven’t received the contract.
Thanks!

I just sent my Housing application today

Housing contract emails will begin to be sent to students who have paid their enrollment deposit soon. None have been sent to date. 11/16/2009 We will begin sending contract emails when we have an idea of what next years rates will be. Our rate request is still in the approval process.

Still curious as to approximately how many housing applications have been actually submitted to UT at this point for Fall 2010. Maybe UTHousing can tell us this. Curious as to how competitive housing spaces will be.

2,355 students have applied for housing at this time. This is about the same number as last year at this time.

The new rates are up for the 2010-2011 academic year. I’m just wondering…is there any particular reason why the amount of Dine In dollars keeps increasing by $100 every year?

I was wondering if UT Housing started sending the contracts!

My son just got the contract. My question to UT housing is “how the position in the waiting list is determined? by the housing application fee submission date or the contract submission date?”

The date you paid the $50.

The amount of Dine In Dollars increased by $100 for next year, 2010-2011 to $1400. Parents consistently request that students receive more Dine In Dollars at the beginning of the year. We are trying to accomodate the customer’s requests.

Dear UTHousing: Why are the Residence Hall Contracts/Hall/ Choices due so early/ November 30th? My son doesn’t know which of his friends will attend UT for sure, who will be in honors, who wants to pay the extra $$ for San Jacinto/Duren, etc. He did not receive an email about the deadline – he heard about it from a friend who received an email, but his deadline is also 11/30.

What happens if your contract is not returned by November 30th? Will he get to keep his place in line from when his application was submitted/$50 was paid? I don’t mind submitting the refundable Advance Payment, but we were not expecting to have to make Residence Hall/Roommate decisions until spring.

UTHousing: I agree! How is my student supposed to find a roommate via the online system AND select a dorm in 7 days…over the Thanksgiving holidays?

Sorry, I’m not UT Housing, but I am pretty sure you can change your preferences for dorms and roomates up until July 1st or so. Your $300 is refundable until May 1st.

Thanks, Queen. We are kind of panicked around here. But I still don’t understand why the housing deposit is due so soon. The enrollment deposit wasn’t due until May 1 and now I wish we hadn’t been so prompt in submitting it. We want to take a look at some of the private dorms but there’s no way we an do that by 11/30.

yeah i was wodnering the same thing, im not sure which one of my friends are attending yet and wont know until like march for sure who i want to room with

Don’t panic! It all can be a little overwhelming to be sure. I am not sure why they require the deposit and choices so early, but since the deposit is refundable and the housing preferences are changeable, it’s mostly an inconvenience. At least you will know that you have a spot secured. I highly recommend living on campus.

The $300 advance payment is due to hold your place. There is no way to have a clear picture of how many contracts we should offer if we do not require the payment up front. As an incoming freshman, if you do not decide to attend UT and cancel your admission before May 1, your $300 advance payment is refunded.

I understand, but I just sort of feel like those who submitted their $200 enrollment deposit early (not due until 5/1/2010) are being penalized by being slapped with another $300 expense so soon (umm, right before Christmas). The $300 is not refundable if you decide to live off campus and should I presume the university will not let you roll it over into Bevo Bucks?

Lesson learned: you should not submit your $200 enrollment fee until you are prepared to pay your $300 housing contract deposit as well. Apparently, your dorm choice is still based on when you submitted your $50 housing application so I see no advantage to submitting your enrollment fee early; in fact, you are placed at a disadvantage because UT gets to enjoy the use of your $500 for an additional 5 months.

oh so your dorm choice is based on the 50$?! and not the $300, then im probaly not going to pay the $300 until may
