(We will try to assign you with all mutually requested roommates.)"

I believe it means if you and another person (specific name) want to live together, UCLA will try to assign you the same room. You are not, however, guaranteed the type of room if you pick room mate as your top preference.

My question is whether the option of "Roommate is my highest-ranked Housing Assignment Preference" includes taking into consideration my lifestyle preferences, or if it simply means being paried up with a roommate who also wants to live with me.

That option is about requesting specific people to be your roommate(s), which has been established. So no, it has nothing to do with lifestyle preferences. Those are always considered.

its taking into consideration your lifestyle preferences, and it'll try to match you up with someone who has a similar one to yours. so say if you dont smoke, they'll try to put you with someone who doesn't smoke either.

I think selecting "roommate" as your highest-ranked housing preference refers to the specific person(s) you named to be your roommate(s), if any. As far as I am aware, the generic lifestyle preferences are pervasive; no matter which housing assignment you are granted, housing will always try to accomodate them since they're the most important of all.
