housing assignment...this suxxx

well i got my housing papers...and they put me in balch, and i have a single...
can i change? cause i don't want to live alone first year, and i don't want to be in an all-girls dorm.....

You can try for a direct transfer--find a girl in a more social room w/ a roommate who wants to be in a balch single.

You can also request a change when you get there. The advice from others has been that "balch isn't bad the way it sounds" and also to wait a week or two to see if you like it because you could change your mind.

it sucks even more when you haven't received your assignment yet.

Yeh... the website says not to call, too, so I waited until today before calling, only to find out that "I hadn't submitted the housing app." I was about to argue, but re-navigated to the online submission site only to find that there are 643024303948029384029438320984 extra steps to submit the forms you've filled out. So yeh: did the form, "didn't send" it, am probably going to end up camping in the gorge first semester. I don't understand how anyone as dumb as I am could even have gotten in.

If it were me I'd mostly be concerned if I was going to be in a dorm with a lot of other freshman. You'll make a ton of friends in your suite/floor/dorm.

I wouldn't be in a big rush to switch out of a single ... I'd suggest talking to your friends who have been in college a year or two and asking them if they'd recommend switching out of a single ... I'll bet most say stay in a single. (Roommates can cause a lot of issues and you can make friends close by without all the compatibility risks)

I was a Cornellie many moons ago but most of my friends who were in Balch loved it there ... big rooms with semi-private bathrooms. Cornell is something like 60/40 men to women so generally women have no shortage of male friends.

i'm sure i sent mine. i have the print out. life sucks....

Don't feel bad. My son would have been camping right next to you if I had not sent in his housing form.

I wouldnt turn down the single right away. I am only going to be a senior in high school, but from what I have heard, many people say that they wish for a single only because you still have two people as neighbors so you will have friends plus your living by yourself. But I guess it is a matter of personal preference.

Grr, wish I could trade with ya...I'm a transfer, though. I've got a double in the Transfer Center when I requested a single. :/

i just got my stuff.Yeah i got a double in the transfer center too. I wanted a single. oh well.

I orginally wanted a double, but now I'm pretty happy with my single...privacy is nice
