How long does it take for them to assign student housing? What's the exact process? Do they first give you a space offer before they assign you a specific hall? When do you sign the housing contract? Thanks in advance.

I got my assignment in July with roommate name, dorm name, and room number. After I put in my application in the Spring, that was the next info I received. My roommate and I found each other on facebook and coordinated who would bring what.

Yes…I was looking online and it says new students find out in July.

Will they notify you electronically or via mail and how do accept the housing assignment?

I think I checked my housing status on-line around the date they said we would be notified and got the info there first then something came in the mail.

They do both. Usually online like the first week of July. You’re already committed to the assignment if you paid the $300 deposit.

Are Freshman guaranteed housing?

Pretty much. You get supplemental housing until they can find you an open spot during the first couple weeks.

What is supplemental housing?

@ Xcellerator - is that basically temporary housing?

Temporary housing? What is that? I’m asking because my parents will not let my sister attend this school unless she can get guaranteed housing. Since my school guarantees housing for four years, I’m not sure what other schools do. =/

Its exactly what it is. Basically you’re given like a temporary place to stay, eg. you share with someone else, or you stay in the lounge until they find a room for you on campus. At least thats what the website said. Check out reslife.tamu.edu/. Thats where everything is regarding student housing. Hope that helps. Just not sure whether what Xcellerator said about supplemental housing is the same thing.

You stay in a lounge? How does that even work? O_o

Edit: I found it on the website. :D
